I'm still persisting with the night photography experiments.
This one is definitely an experiment as opposed to a finished work... I've only done some basic curves and levels in Photoshop.
I love what the super long exposure does to the tonality of seascapes. the water goes very abstract almost and you just pick up the tones of the breaking water and sand transitioning into water.
I've still got a lot of learning to do on night photography. I'm enjoying it though.
this was an 8.5min exposure really early in the morning.
Steve Ridges and I also light painted a shack in Swan Valley near the old school house. I'm glad we took the opportunity as every time I see it there seems to be less of it there!

The coldest auckland night for 40 years (0.9c ha!) and a clear, moonless sky were perfect conditions for stargazing. As I sat contemplating the universe (or more specifically the Milky Way) the whole existential insignificance thing started to bite. The sheer number of stars, and the time and distances travelled by their light into my camera is totally mind blowing.
I just came back from a trip that I did at the Joshua Tree national park to shoot the milky way, we arrived too early and the milky way did not show up, this was the second time that I was there, so I dig back into the photos that i shot there last week and came up with these photo.
If you want to see how I did this you can see the live episode on youtube just search serge ramelli astrophotography.
Sadly, smoke from the British Columbia, Canada, forest fires are covering our region. We were at Tipsoo to shoot star trails and our pics were sepia colored.
We rolled into Seattle last night and were shocked that Rainier isn't even visible from Seattle now. :(
With phenomenal photog Dustin LeFevre who is currently on his flight back to Utah.
