Meet Captain, one of three of Greater Manchester Police horses who were winners in the Animal Hero Awards 2016, sponsored by the RSPCA and The Daily Mirror.
Police horses Hexam, Captain and Tangle were honoured at the star-studded ceremony in London, hosted by Amanda Holden and attended by celebrities including Alesha Dixon and Brian May.
Along with a former military dog called Rex, Hexam, Captain and Tangle were awarded joint Public Service Animal of Year for their bravery while working a football match between Manchester United and Liverpool in March.
When the game finished and the crowds began to exit the stadium, a group of fans made threats of violence, determined to reach opposing fans.
As the horses intervened to control the situation, they were targeted by the group who began to throw coins, smoke bombs and fireworks. The horses were then repeatedly shoved, punched and pelted with projectiles.
Leaping into action, Hexam, Captain and Tangle helped to push back the troublesome crowd, making sure that the missiles fell short of innocent fans leaving from nearby exits.
Sergeant Cara Charlesworth, one of the police riders that evening, said: “The courage that these three horses showed in what must have been a terrifying experience was amazing.
“They did not falter and repeatedly dealt with the crowd again and again when every one of their instincts should have been telling them to turn and run.
“What was also remarkable was that five minutes later the same three horses were stood out on the forecourt as if nothing had happened, letting small children and genuine fans stroke them and have photos taken, despite being violently attacked only minutes earlier.”
Hexam, Captain and Tangle were also nominated for their involvement with the evacuation of 75,000 fans during the bomb scare at Old Trafford in May.
Specialist Operations Inspector Susan Redfern, responsible for the Mounted Unit, said: “Congratulations to Hexam, Captain and Tangle for winning this thoroughly deserved award.
“With the support of their riders, Sergeant Charlesworth, PC Cassie Barratt and PC Aaron Wilson, they managed to make an extremely volatile situation stable.”
When asked to comment on receiving their award, Hexam, Captain and Tangle responded: “It was neigh trouble!”

Farr's Bay Nature Reserve lies on the shores of Lough Neigh in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The lowering of the lake in the 1930's led to the natural reclamation of the old shoreline. Alder and Ash trees have reclaimed the area, but it's still pretty boggy in parts. There was a scattering of Wild Garlic, Bluebells and Ferns, with Yellow Flag Iris's in the wetter parts when i visited a few weeks back.
As soon as I saw this location I new there was an image in there, but I really struggled to get a composition I was happy with. I think I was trying to get too much in, and found it hard to separate out the individual elements.
I'm still in two minds about this image and would value peoples comments.
St Bartholomew, Lostwithiel, Cornwall
Some background information:
The parish church in the little town of Lostwithiel in central Cornwall was founded in the 12th century. It’s dedicated in honour of St Bartholomew, the patron saint of tanners. Nowadays the church is a Grade I listed building.
St Bartholomew includes a tower from the 13th century with a spire added in the early 14th century. Around the spire’s foot there’s an octagonal screen with former windows on four of its eight sides.
On the north side of the church there’s a St Catherine’s Wheel and above the nave there’s a clerestory, which is very unusual for a Cornish church.
St Bartholomew also has some fine monuments of Georgian period and a brass of 1423. The east window of five lights, which (just like the spire) dates from the early 14th century, is one of the most notable in Cornwall. Also outstanding is the 14th century font with carved figures of a huntsman and hawk, a head with leaves sprouting from its mouth, an evil face, a wolf and hounds as well as lions.
During the Civil War in 1644 the church was damaged, when Lostwithiel and the Fowey peninsula were occupied by 10,000 Parliamentary soldiers. At that time it was also desecrated and used to stable horses. The story goes that one of the horses was christened "Charles" by Parliamentary soldiers. This is perhaps why Prince Charles resolved upon visiting St Bartholomew on 4th July 2009 - together with his own royal "horse" Camilla. Please forgive me this impertinence, but I simply couldn’t resist. ;-)
By the way, current thinking is that the name Lostwithiel comes from the Old Cornish "Lost Gwydhyel" meaning "tail-end of the woodland". I also don’t want to forget mentioning that the most famous residents of Lostwithiel were the two female novelists Daphne du Maurier and Rosamunde Pilcher. The former grew up there, the latter lived there for a while.
On vast field one day a boy walked,
For miles saw nothin’,
Another mile saw somethin’,
On the midst,
Moves on to lead,
What’s yonder,
In laconic motion, neigh,
Lad saw haughty tree
So thick, so verdant,
Her branches twist’d sturdy,
Sallow green leaves lordy,
Yet no flora speak proudly,
Waited countless years dearly,
Much awaited sweetness,
Of her smooth skinn’d heart
Boy slept ‘till mornin’
Wakes up adorin’ sunrise,
Walks to window surprise,
To see dyin’ mango tree,
Needs waterin’ to free,
Life once again,
Naïve, florid, a smilin’,
Though nescience was he
Grandpa a comin’one day
Started a workin’,
Prunin’, a sprayin’,
Though he was ignoble,
Keeps away trouble,
Needs he no footless,
Yet full of ludic tale,
When mango tree a talkin’
The protégé listened
His latitudinarian Ol’ man,
Once a valiant seaman,
By then turned farm hand,
Possesses mango land,
A sellin’ the sweetish fruit,
That’s Ol’ man’s dream,
And it’s comin’ true
Days passed by
Trees a flowerin’ all over,
Redolent in fragrance moreover,
Elated they were, boy an’ grandpa,
Ol’man enjoyed today’s spa,
Once sugary fruit comes in,
Green dough starts a pourin’
Tope! As the French say
Another sunny mornin’
Laddy boy comes rushin’,
Tellin’ Ol’man’s face a washin’,
Heart shaped fruit hangin’,
Hundreds each trees bangin’,
Ready for pickin’,
The saccharin fruit,
Packed in cartons for transport
Hard day’s work finished
Aged, juvenile face creases,
Appearance of happiness,
Without taking sight thereof,
Sallow skinn’d fruits afar off,
There’s endless wealth surely,
If Ol’ man’s aegis,
Wil’ be there to stay
Mango tree live hundred years
Ol’man’s can’t live long,
Protégé took before long
Ignoble he’d become
Nor froward he’d overcome
Son, grandson, great grandson
Heritage will go on
So with the tree and its sugary fruits
Of all the fruits,
Mango the sweetish of them all!

Nearly every Saturday night, the jackass relatives of our next door neighbors descend on our circle like a flock of redneck locusts, showing absolutely no consideration for any of us who actually live in this circle, and parking where-ever the hell they feel like. This is an image from a recent Saturday of how close they will park to my car (the purple one). They always stay from mid-afternoon to mid-evening, and merely sneer at us or ignore us completely when we complain about how close they park to my car, or how close they come to blocking access to our driveway. If I'm working, then by the time I get home at 6:30, they've parked two vehicles in the space I normally park my own car, often sticking out over the entrance to our driveway. Honestly, after the way they behave, I've felt very little compulsion to stopping myself from keying the sides of their cars.
******PLEASE NOTE THIS STORY IS DEDICATED TO A GOOD FRIEND*******
Chris was just a simple boy living a simple life boring as ever no Adventure and no fun in life
the only one that found solice in his life was his best friend of a horse Buck him and Buck were
unseparable he even knew when Chris was done at school and trot there to give him a ride
home Chris would always appreciate the ride other kids would laugh at him and call him weird
for having a horse for a friend but that didn't bother chris at all it was a weekend another boring
non adventurous weekend Chris never felt so bored in his whole entire life so he did what he
always did when he felt down he went out to see Buck as he walked over to him Buck raised
himself up and gave a graceful neigh Chris ran over to Buck hugged him and recived a big
sloppy lick on the cheek Chris gave a chuckle and just stood there speaking to him about all
about lifes problems and him wanting a big adventure with Buck Chris just lied on the grass
speaking to buck he just stood there listening and understanding as he nodded his head a
couple of times he walked on closer to Chris hooves right by his head and looked down on him
he felt Chris's heartache for adventure and fun with him and it would be nice he thought for a
second but the only thing he could do is make Chris smile and he liked that so he lowerd his
head all the way down to Chris stuck out his slimy tounge and licked all over his face Chris
laughed and gave a scream Buck licked Chris four times and stopped when Chris put his hand
on Bucks face to stop him so Chris sat up and gave a chuckle "I know Buck I love ya too" Buck
nodded his head three times "thew good thing im not bug sized or that wouldn't end well
*laugh*" Buck gave a neigh "*sigh* down there right now is alot of adventure the life of a bug i
bet it is so fun i would love that kind of adventure" Buck understood what Chris was saying but
he's not magic even tho he wished to be just so he could make Chris's dream come true even a
wish like that wouldn't come true so a whole boring day continued and night time came Chris
was in bed and Buck was in his stable all of a sudden there were loud noises a strange man in a
black sweater and army green pants jumped over a fence into Chris's garden there were loud
poilce sirens it caused Buck to neigh and kick all over the place Chris could hear the all the
noises outside so he went out to investergate he got out of bed ran down stairs and turned the
porch light on the strange man got startled he ditched the srange round thing on the ground
and leaped over the fence and made a run for it Chris ran over to the stables to check on Buck
as he ran his leg hit his other leg and he tripped over himself he opend his eyes and saw a
strange round thing on the floor he could see the purple magical aura all around the talansman
he picked it up and fiddled with it and it began to glow causeing Chris to disappear out of
nowhere then the talansman faded away in exsistance Buck continued to neigh untill all was
calm he ran out the stable to strech his legs and he stood directly by Chris he was in the grass
all tiny and uncontious undetected by Buck after stretching his legs he ran back into the stables
and rested untill morn the next morning came and Chris finaly awoke but not in his room but a
grassy jungle he felt like he saw this before but it didn't come to mind so Chris did what anyone
else would do and that was explore the jungled area Chris thought he was dreaming at first
because he was actually haveing an adventure but felt down because Buck wasn't around to
enjoy the adventure with him he looked all over and around to see if Buck was around then he
began shouting for Buck the one thing he remembers is running outside in a panic after hearing
Buck neighing in discomfort and sirens outside but it all went blank just after picking up the
strange talansman and then waking up in a strange jungle so he shrugged the memory off his
head and started shouting for Buck but nothing was there to hear him far far away to Bucks
point of view he happly trotted out to the garden and gave a neigh to Chris's point of view the
neighing sound was unbearable Chris couldn't handle it he screamed when he heard the loud
neighing then at Bucks point of view he lowerd down with his hooves to the ground to Chris's
point of view it wasn't much as lowering down then it was crashing down two massive walls
landed in front of Chris like an explosive earthquake but at Bucks point of view there wasn't a
sound to be heard Chris never heard or saw anything like this in his life so Chris pinch himself
hard as possible untill he screamed and realized that he was still there in the surrounded jungle
with two humungous wall right in front of him so he backed right away from the giant hooved
wall and looked up starting from the bottom of the hoove to the top and he saw strands of fur
above the giant wall so he continued from the furry part near the giant wall and his eyes raised
as he backs his head all the way he nearly broke his spine from backing his head back his eyes
raised all the way when he noticed that he was looking at Buck he screamed in terror because
his wish came true and also he was scared to death because he just realized that how tiny he
was and how big Buck was and that he was stuck at his tiny size he continued screaming to
Bucks point of view the screams were squeeky and high pitched Buck could just about hear the
tiny high pitched screams coming from below him Bucks ears were sensitive so he looked down
and lowerd his head all the way down it felt like it got a whole lot darker in Chris's point of view
so he looked up but couldn't see much because of the tall grass standing over him but then all
of a sudden Buck started blowing huge gusts of air out his nose and it caused the grass to
move violently the giant gusts of air nearly blew Chris away from above Chris the blades of
grass were swaying from the left to the right then Chris could see from beyond the giant blades
of grass and saw the giant nostrils of his giant horse Buck the only thing he could notice were
the big hairs in his nose swaying from the giant blowy gusts Chris was pined to the floor not
being able to move but his concern was what would be Bucks next move suddenly the giant
gusts of air stopped Chris slowly opend his eyes his eyes couldn't bare the giant gusts then he
looked in horror as Buck but his mouth down to the grass wide open Chris thought that he
would end up getting eaten by Buck but instead Buck grabed a huge clump of grass Chris saw
the giant blades of grass tear around him the tearing was loud compared to Chris then the giant
blades raised up and into Bucks mouth he started chewing on the grass Chris looked up and
started hearing the giant chewing sounds and the sloppyness as he was eating and chewing the
grass Chris coverd his ears from the chewing sounds then rains of slobber ran down on to the
ground around Chris he screamed and ran deep into the grass but the screaming got Buck all
curious just as Chris was running through the massive patch of grass that was eaten by Buck
Buck got a quick glimps of Chris and stopped his chewing lowerd his head down to Chris then
he realized he kicked his back legs in excitement and nodded his head three times as to say that
he was excited that Chris is actually having an adventure but after those three nods he looked
again and noticed that Chris disappeard Chris ran deeper into the grassy jungle untill he hit
something hard he got his head back into gear looked up and noticed the giant fence post so
decided to climb up just to get his bareings the climb took forever untill finaly he made it to the
top he looked all around and realized how far his house was what was he to do he couldn't fly or
run that fast it'd take more then a week to get back to the house at his stature so he continued
to look around this is what he wished now he regrets it he looked over and saw Buck at the
same place where he woke up Buck turned his head and ran to Chris's direction Chris was once
again in panic as Buck ran past the post but stoped he then began rubbing his rump against the
post causing the post to wobble Chris felt like he was going to loose balance and fall off he
began to scream in horror as he was watching Bucks giant rump rub onto the post Chris had
the idea of jumping off the post onto Bucks rump but he didn't have the gut to do so he was just
about to fall and he gave a big squeeky scream Bucks ears began to twitch he stoped rubbing
turned around and got a close look at the post only to notice a tiny being on the post he looked
even closer and nodded his head two times in excitement Chris said in a nervious way "h.hey
buck it's me" Buck then raised his head over to Chris untill Chris was looking into Bucks
nostrils Chris backed away waving his arms in the air screaming "no Buck don't ok don't think
about it" all of a sudden Buck began the giant snorts big huge gusts of air his Chris so he lied
down and held on for his life onto the post but then all of a sudden Buck started to inhale Chris
was then getting sucked towards Bucks nose he held on for his life once again he felt like he
was being pushed back he turned his head and saw the huge inhaleing nose and the hairs in his
nose moving around Chris started to loose his grip he was being pushed back with alot of force
his finger nails started scratching as he was moving towards the giant nose then the inhaleing
was getting stronger untill Chris couldn't bare it anymore he moved one hand as it was getting
burns from holding on to much then he lost his entire grip with his other hand and ended up
being sucked further on into the nose he screamed for his life "NOOOO BUCK PLEASE
STOPPPP!!!" he screamed as he was at the end of the post he slipped off and flew right into
Bucks nose untill there was nothing left on the post Buck lowerd his head down and noticed
that Chris had disappeard again Chris was inside Bucks nose looking outside he could see the
post then he could see Buck licking at the post Chris watched in horror thinking that it could of
been him on the post he could of licked then Buck turned his head and trotted off into the
stables trotted to a wall and he began to relax untill he gave the biggest sneeze ever Chris was
blasted from Bucks nose like a man in a cannon and ended up hitting the wall Buck was faceing
Chris was in eww when he noticed his situation he then noticed Buck looking directly at him "oh
hey Buck...p.p.please help me please" Bucks ears started to twitch he could hear what Chris
was saying he nodded three times gave a small smile with his slimy tounge sticking half way out
like a panting dog Chris opend his eyes wide in horror after realizing that the look he was giving
meant that a few times Chris lied on the grass relexing Buck would make that look sticking his
tounge half way out and giving him a lick Chris then screamed in panic after he realized this
"NO BUCK NO DON'T THINK ABOUT IT OK NO KISSES OK THIS ISN'T THE RIGHT TIME!!!" but
Buck wouldn't listen he could hear every word but his love for Chris was strong he thought of
Chris as a brother to him but tiny or not Buck would still give him what he needs and that is a
kiss Bucks face came closer and closer to Chris he was in panic alot Bucks tongue was an inch
close and Chris gave the biggest scream ever as he was licked up off the wall and onto the big
slimy wall of tongue but he was sort of glad to be free from the web of snot on the wall he sat up
and noticed the giant tounge decending back into the mouth it was all in slow motion Chris was all frozed up couldn't move a muscle all of a sudden the mouth began to close all was dark Chris would be in Bucks mouth untill he gave the final gulp he did ended up gulping neighed kicked his legs in the air and nodded three times in excitement knowing that Chris had the best adventure ever now the adventure would be inside his stomach

This was one of the shortest and nicest weddings I've ever been to. The whole wedding part couldn't have been more than 5 minutes! And it was followed by a really nice reception with great food and ambiance!

Merida is standing in front of her horse Angus, and is petting his nose.
Angus and Merida have been fully deboxed.
My first look at the 2 piece Brave Angus and Merida Doll Set. It was released by the Disney Store on Monday May 14, 2012 online and in stores, along with many other Brave merchandise. It's cost is $39.50 US.
The set consists of the Princess Merida, who is a fully poseable 11.5'' doll in her blue formal dress, carrying a bow and arrow, and her faithful companion Angus, a 12.5'' tall black plush horse doll. Angus is 13.5'' to the top of his ears and is 15'' long. He has white hair on his nose and hooves, and neighs for a few seconds when his nose is pressed.
First I photographed the set in the unopened box. Then with the dolls taken out of the box, but still attached to the inner cardboard backing, which slides out of the box like a tray. Finally, the dolls were fully deboxed, and posed separately and together.
