For this assignment the objective was to capture general shapes and gesture quickly. The idea was to train our eye to focus more on the gesture and motion rather than precise composition and detail. Unlike contour drawing describing shapes is not as important as showing action or the dynamics of a pose. We used lines, bubbles, blocks and negative space to define our shapes.
The exercise was a bit difficult to get used to at first since I usually don't draw this way. After a few attempts I felt like I was tuning into the motion more than form. I think this way of drawing humans or objects in motion does add energy and makes the pictures more dynamic. Precise contour drawing can make pictures feel stiff. I think it is better to loosen up when drawing action pictures.
Testing new camera phone out, can upload direct to flickr, has a few styles to choose from & geotags. Reviews say the camera is pretty bad but I'll see if I can get something different than the usual camera phones images :)
