I used my freshly tweaked stencil as a mask for applying slightly diluted acrylic paint to a page of my sketchbook.

The paint bled a bit under the edges of the stencil so I didn't get quite the crisp lines I was after. Possibly it would be better to use less diluted paint at least round the edges of the stencil itself.

Digitised image from the Town Hall Photographer's Collection - GB127.M850

The Town Hall Photographer’s Collection is a large photographic collection held in Manchester City Council’s Central Library archives, ranging in date from 1956 to 2007.

The collection consists of tens of thousands of images, covering the varied areas of work of Manchester Corporation and latterly, Manchester City Council.

The photographs were taken by staff photographers, who were tasked to document the work of Corporation/Council departments and, in doing so, captured many aspects of Manchester life and history, including significant changes to the Manchester landscape.

The collection includes many different formats from glass negatives, to slides, prints, CDs and even a couple of cine films.

What is especially exciting is that the majority of these images have never before been available in a digital format and therefore have only ever been seen by a handful of people.

A team of dedicated Staff and Volunteers are currently working on the systematic digitisation of the negatives held within the collection.

This album represents the result of their work to date.

I was trying to get a negative effect with this picture of colourful number tiles. I think I got more of a metallic effect. What do you think?

The garage had a dead 2 door sedan1951 Chevy in it that I spent many hours just sitting in as a kid. The house had squirrels. Couple of neighborhood kids. I was about seven years old when I took these shots with an Argus 127 my grandparents gave me for my first communion. I "colorized" these by simply playing with dell image expert. Note old fashioned solar clothes dryer (clothes line) in garage picture. Also notice I took the garage picture through the screen in my bedroom window, you can see the pattern if you look closely. . These windows all had screen inserts for the summer which we had to take off in winter and put up the glass storm windows. The next door neighbor had an old late 40's early 50's Packard. They had a self propelled lawn mower which was rare in those days. For years we had one of those push reel type mowers and when my father finally bought a gas mower our other neighbor borrowed it and pranged it on a metal strip on the edge of his paved driveway, bending the shaft. The poor mower made this godawful noise after that, it didn't sound happy to run anymore....Lesson: never lend your mower to ANYBODY!
