Red kites have a rusty reddish-brown body with a deeply forked tail. Their head is pale grey and patterned with dark streaks, and they have a yellow beak with a dark hook and pale, striking eyes.

Their angular wings span 185cm. On the upper side they are red-brown at the shoulders with darker tips and edges, while underneath there are characteristic blocks of white before darker, fingered wing tips.

The Nictitating membrane can be seen in the photo . It is an additional transparent or translucent eyelid that some birds have , which covers the eye , in order to protect and moisten it while allowing a certain visibility !

The Dylife Gorge, located near Dylife, Powys, Mid Wales, was carved by the action of the last Ice age. It is headed by the Ffrwd Fawr Waterfall. Before the last Ice age, the River Twymyn did not flow through the valley. When the valley was filled by a glacier, the ice ground out a U-shaped glaciated valley.
