On 13 February 1692, in the aftermath of the Jacobite uprising of 1689, an incident known as the Massacre of Glencoe took place in the glen. Thirty-eight men from Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by government forces who were billeted with them on the grounds that they had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, William and Mary.

The Glen is named after the River Coe which runs through it. The name of the river may predate the Gaelic language, as its meaning is not known. It is possible that the name stems from an individual personal name, Comhan

Genüsslich verspeist die Wespe ihre Beute auf meinem Gartenzaun. So ergab sich die Gelegenheit in aller Ruhe Fotos zu machen. Im Vordergrund ist noch gut zu erkennen der abgetrennte Kopf vom Insekt welches sie erbeutet hatte.

Mit einer Fläche von 105 Hektar ist das Neeracherried eines der letzten grossen Flachmoore der Schweiz. Es wird regelmässig gemäht und in den Randzonen auch beweidet und bietet dadurch Lebensraum für unzählige Vögel, Pflanzen, Amphibien und Reptilien. Schottische Hochlandrinder geben dem Ried seit einigen Jahren ein besonderes Gepräge.

Die Fläche des Rieds stand im Gemeinbesitz der Anstössergemeinden. Die älteste erhaltene Urkunde im Gemeindearchiv Neerach datiert von 1528 und betrifft Streitigkeiten zwischen Neerach, Riedt und Höri um die gemeinsame Allmend. Diese liessen sich nie mehr ganz beilegen. Es gab daher immer wieder Bestrebungen seitens Neerach und Riedt, die gemeinsame Riedfläche zu beschneiden oder gar ganz aufzuteilen. Der Gemeinde Höri gelang es mehrmals solche Vorhaben zu stoppen. Erst im Sommer 1800 erfolgte die endgültige Aufteilung des Rieds, das heute zum Gebiet der Gemeinden Neerach, Höri und Niederglatt gehört.

Ils produisent un appel grave et sonore pendant la période de reproduction. Cette appel peut s’apparenter au beuglement d’un taureau ( d’où le nom Bullfrog ) . Les mâles chantent aussi pour marquer leur territoire .

They produce a deep loud call during the breeding season . This call can be likened to the bellow of a Bullfrog. Males sing to mark their territories .
