I would usually photograph these falls with a slow shutter speed, however, I decided to capture the mighty spring runoff with a faster shutter to freeze the action. I certainly would not want to fall in!!

The Eagles Fall Recreation Area is a very popular summer destination. It has a powerful waterfall, wonderful worn rock outcrops and the clear rushing water of the Skykomish River. Unfortunately it is so popular with kids that the rocks are mostly covered with graffiti! On this freezing cold morning we had it all to ourselves and managed to make several images avoiding the graffiti.

This image is just back from the river showing an alcove which has been sculpted by the high water over many hundreds of years.

"...and the river bank sings of the waters of March, it the promise of life it's the joy in your heart" Antonio Carlo Jobim

He may have got the month wrong but the waterways in the Northwest are definitely "singing" as they overflow with the spring snow melt and and recent rains.

I spent several enjoyable hours exploring and photographing at Deception Creek Fall Recreation Area on US Route 2 near Stevens Pass.

In this small tributary bubbles swirl in the turbulent spring flow making interesting patterns in long exposures.

This is my last hurried shot before the rain came.

Ebey Island is southeast of Everett, WA. It is boarded by the Snohomish River, Ebey & Steamboat Sough. It is little inhabited with mostly farm and pasture land and, of course, some wetlands.

It is a difficult place to photograph due to the lack of parking and road shoulders. None the less I grab an image there once in a while. This was taken on a beautiful sunny day of an old unused fence post along one of the wetland wildlife areas.

McAlester Lake is a large somewhat shallow alpine lake that sits at an elevation of 5,500 feet in the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and is accessed by a 7 1/2 hike from Route 20 in the North Cascades National Park. I spent 4 days there as a base camp while hiking to other nearby alpine areas.

The grassland reeds at the lake outlet had turned beautiful shades of red, yellow, orange and green.

The short Twin Fir Nature Trail is a great place to walk amongst old growth giants especially in light fresh fallen snow.

grown from seed last year, takes forever to flower, but definitely worth the wait!

Had a pretty lazy Saturday, which was lovely and much needed. Tim and I popped down to Sainsburys this afternoon to get some Saturday night supplies (snacks and booze). Snapped this when we came back. Our neighbour's hobby seems to be buying half-decent cars and then leaving them to rot - but it's made for some interesting patterns on the bumper of this one.
