I knew I'd find a use a for this body eventually! I bought this Soldier Story body a couple of years back, when I was first trying to rebody Eugene. It didn't fit anyone else, but I thought it was a lovely shape, so it's been stuck in a box since then.
It's probably going to get given to Homebrew Nate, who's trying it out here. He looks weird without ears, hair or colour, but I'm getting quite excited at the prospect of finishing him. Drake's quite a slim guy (especially for an action hero), so this body seems to suit him compared to so many of the others around.
Very little dolling this week (much work). However, as of this evening, I am technically on annual leave (though still got a fair bit of work left to do).
Couldn't face doing work tonight though, so did a bit more work on Homebrew!Nate. He is now the proud owner of belt loops and a metal wedding ring. I literally bled for that ring. At least blood staining isn't entirely out of character for Drake.
Up next? Watch and holster.
Sculpting and painting done! I'm still dead chuffed with him; unlike the previous version, I didn't find any huge annoyances leaping out on me during the painting process.
Drake's looking a bit older in Uncharted 4, which I've tried to work in (crow's feet, etc.) I'm working on making him the costume you can see in the promotional/development images that have been released to date, but in the meantime, he's wearing Sideshow!Nate's shirt. I think he looks kind of smouldery male model-y...
So I maaaay have made a detour to Hamleys on the way home from work tonight...
Those of you who are familiar with Hamleys will know it's a huge toy shop on London's Regent Street. It's pretty much exclusively tourist trade these days, and tends to be ludicrously over-priced as a result - usually around a third higher than other shops for the same item. As a result, I'm usually a browser.
However, it does have some redeeming features: it stocks the Super Model bods I like (extremely cheaply, at the moment), and occasionally, you get a sale.
Like today! Loads of Barbie stuff was marked down, including the fashion pack I was after for Punz, and the Made to Move dolls. To be fair, Made to Move was only down to £15 (from an insano £20!), but I fancied having a go with one.
I've seen a couple of people messing with these bodies, and it struck me that the physique of these is actually very similar to that of Elena Fisher in the Uncharted games. She's been living on action figure bods of various kinds until now, and it seems that dolls for guys (AKA action figures) only come in busty flavour.
Turns out she looks pretty fab, in my opinion. I swapped her hands around for the Kumik hands she had before, and I think I'm going to make her feet bigger with Milliput or something.
Now for a costume refit!
Rich's Sideshow!Nate, getting his makeover. As you can see, I like having a lot of colours at my disposal - if they're not out, you don't tend to use them.
A comparison of the two. There are some differences between the bodies (Sideshow on the left, Soldier Story 1.0 on the right). I'm still a bit annoyed by Homebrew's head seeming a bit small, but he's reasonably in proportion of how he'd be as a real human being, and he's definitely not your average action figure built guy, I think.
He's not finished yet, but we're getting there. Drake is probably the most famous Henley shirt wearer of the fictional world, which is something of a bummer, since that collar is damned annoying to make. I think this is a good start, but I'm thinking of having another go to make it more accurate. He also needs some proper trousers (he's wearing Disney Store Flynn Rider ones at the moment).
All accessories nicked from Sideshow!Nate while he waits on his own.
I've been trying to work on getting Drake's gear done this week, and to pace myself a little better than usual. I didn't like the fit of the first Henley I made; it was much too baggy. So I made a new one, slimmer fit, in a fabric I actually prefer. The collar's not quite right still (gah), but it's better than the last one, and has some buttons now.
As for the trousers... man, they were complicated. I cheated, and ended up taking apart the Disney Store Flynn pair and copying the basic pattern from those. He does have pockets, and a waistband though, so he can carry his cool junk around. Still need to add belt loops though.
Not too chuffed with the closure this time. I used Velcro, but unfortunately as you can see, there's a bit that's still visible at the fly, so I might have another mess with that.
Sideshow Uncharted 3 Drake, and Homebrew Uncharted 4 Drake.
If/when I make Elena, a disagreement may arise.

*SPOILER ALERT FOR UNCHARTED 4*
So... I was all worried that something untoward would happen to one of the characters in Uncharted 4... completely unnecessarily! Everyone came out unscathed, and the ending was so lovely.
As for my figures? I actually prefer them having played the game; maybe I've got used to them, but I'm happier with the likenesses now. Certainly Drake poses much more naturally in his current incarnation than he did in his last one, and looks a leetle bit younger, I think.
Third attempt at Nathan Drake. I liked my Mark 2 head, but like I said he was a tad small, and also I hadn't realised I ought to make the neck attachments universal.
This guy's been put together while waiting for bits of the John Simm sculpt to cure, etc. I think I'm starting to get a better feel for the shapes and angles of his face now, and practice helps, after all. Next - ears and hair (and some sanding/revisions).
In other news - Uncharted 4 has been delayed. AGAIN.
He's neaaaaarly done now. Slightly worried he's looking a bit too young, but hopefully I can fix that with the paint job. A little jawline and hair tweaking to go, but hoping to get onto painting tomorrow night!
Probably best go to bed now...
This evening, I decided to try and get a start on painting a fair number of the John Simm sculpts. I got all the paints out, and there's now a small mountain of pinkish base-coated Master heads littering my kitchen table. More on that tomorrow.
Since I had the paints out, I decided to touch up some other stuff between coats. Elena's facial skin tones were bothering me, as she was painted originally to match another body.
She's had her facial tones fixed with some transparent glazes, with some added freckles and blush.
Our Lady of Right Hooks? Early on in the first 'Uncharted' game, Elena punches Drake in the face... she also gets zero love from PlayStation on the merchandise front, so I have to make my own.
