Namibia Sossusvlei

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Mondesa Township which is near Walvis Bay, Namibia.

I have visited places like this before and have come away with the same difficulties, trying to understand how people living in such poverty (the "buildings" in the background of some of these shots are their homes) can be so welcoming and outwardly happy? There is also a clear determination to make the most of what little they have and take a pride in themselves, their appearance and their rubbish free environment. I am reminded of a quote from Mark Twain.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness." Very true words.

Taken during a 2 week adventure holiday to Namibia with Exodus Travels, October/November 2006. Image taken with a borrowed Minolta Dynax 5D camera, the first DSLR that I ever used. Originally shot in jpeg format, then recently reprocessed using DxO PhotoLab 4 to try and get the best out of them, as I hadn't really appreciated the possibilities of what I'd taken at the time.

On the western side of Etosha lies the fascinating Morniga Forest, also known as the Haunted Forest, it is littered with strangely shaped Moringa trees possibly shaped by browsing herds of elephant and giraffe.
