America - „A horse with no name“
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSZXWdKSQNM
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
I′ve been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead
You see I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After nine days, I let the horse run free
′Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love
You see I′ve been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain′t no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la

Hints:
-It's the national bird of both Pakistan and Iraq.
-It was originally brought to America, as a game bird, in 1893.
-This bird was seen, along with a couple siblings, sneaking through the brush in a rocky section of Horse Heaven Hills, Washington.
I would have had no idea what this was, except it was following its mother around.

Despite its name, the Marsh Tit is actually found in our woodlands, parks and gardens. The Marsh tit is very similar to the Willow Tit in looks and size. It was only discovered in 1897 by ornithologists that the Marsh & Willow Tits were in fact two separate species.

The name Cape Disappointment comes from British explorer John Meares, who named it in 1788 after he mistakenly thought the mouth of the Columbia River was a bay. The bar has sunk over 2,000 large ships and is often called the graveyard of the Pacific. The 53 foot tall lighthouse was constructed in 1856. It was electrified in 1927 and automated in 1937. Another house was built to enable the Coast Guard to monitor ship traffic. Life saving efforts begun in the 1870's by the light keepers led to the establishment of a Coast Guard base.
In German, the name of the wren is "Zaunkönig", roughly King of the Fence. In this picture, that name seems to be well-deserved as this young wren still head a light feather crown. In a book about the history of German bird names by Suolahti (1909), the author describes an old tale where all the birds wanted to crown the one amongst them which can fly the highest. The eagle stepped up and flew high and higher... but on its back, a small little bird rode up into the air with him and at the highest point flew just a tiny bit higher. To the Eagle's dismay, that little bird received the "King" name. The author assumes that the bird in the tale was a gold- or firecrest, which today still carries the genus name Regulus for "little king". In some German-speaking regions the more often seen and admired wren received the "King" name over time with early mentions already in the 15th century. Interestingly it replaced the Old-German name wrendo, which is very similar to it's English name.

Botanical name: Agapanthus praecox.

Taken at Kirstenbosch Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa.
But the name has some sinister history:-
The firework is named after Saint Catherine of Alexandria who, according to Christian tradition, was condemned to death by “breaking on the wheel”.
The breaking wheel or execution wheel, also known as the Catherine wheel or simply the Wheel, was a torture method used for public execution primarily in Europe from antiquity through the Middle Ages into the early modern period by breaking the bones of a criminal.
The primary goal of the first act was the agonizing mutilation of the body, not death.
The rest is pretty grizzly - but if you are interested - - -

SN/NC: Congea Tomentosa, Verbenaceae Family
Congea tomentosa is a large tropical evergreen vine, commonly referred to as wooly congea, shower orchid, or shower of orchid. (Despite the name, it is not closely related to orchids). It is called lluvia de orquideas or terciopelo in Spanish, krua on in Thai, and rong bao teng in Chinese. Native to Myanmar and Thailand, it can be found elsewhere in South Asia, including Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia (Kedah), China (Yunnan), Bangladesh, and India (Assam, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal). Its native habitat is mixed forests 600–1200 meters above sea level. This tropical vine has been naturalized elsewhere, including the islands of the Caribbean, southern Florida, and southern California. In the United States, wooly congea can be grown outdoors in USDA zones 10 and 11. It does not tolerate frost.
Si chiama lluvia de orquideas o terciopelo in spagnolo, krua on in tailandese e rong bao teng in cinese.
The genus name, Lanius , is derived from the Latin word for " butcher ", and some shrikes are also known as "butcher birds" because of their feeding habits.
The Red-backed Shrike bird (Lanius collurio) is a member of the shrike family Laniidae. The general colour of the males upper parts is reddish. It has a grey head and a typical shrike black stripe through the eye. Underparts are tinged pink and the tail has a black and white pattern similar to that of a wheatear. In the female and young Red-backed Shrikes, the upperparts are brown and vermiculated (wavy lines or markings). Underparts are buff and also vermiculated.
This 16 – 18 centimetres long migratory passerine eats large insects, small birds, voles and lizards. Like other shrikes the Red-backed Shrike hunts from prominent perches and impales corpses on thorns or barbed wire as a ‘larder’.
The Red-backed Shrike breeds in most of Europe and western Asia and winters in tropical Africa.
The Red-backed Shrikes range is decreasing and it is now probably extinct in Great Britain as a breeding bird, although it is frequent on migration.
The Red-backed Shrike is named as a protected bird in Britain under a Biodiversity Action Plan. The Red-backed Shrikes’ decline is due to overuse of pesticides and scrub clearance due to human overpopulation.
The Red-backed Shrike breeds in open cultivated country with hawthorn and dog rose.

Smile on Saturday theme: Portray the name of a Music Band
Ann Dustin Wilson is an American musician best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the rock band Heart. Wilson has been a member of Heart since the early 1970s; her younger sister, Nancy Wilson, is also a member of the band. Wikipedia
Nancy Lamoureaux Wilson (born March 16, 1954) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, producer, and film composer. She rose to fame alongside her older sister, singer Ann Wilson, as a guitarist and backing vocalist in the rock band Heart.
Heart is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Seattle, Washington as The Army. Two years later, The Army changed their name to Hocus Pocus, then they changed their name again to White Heart a year later, but eventually changed the name a final time to Heart in 1973. By the mid-1970s, original members Roger Fisher (guitar) and Steve Fossen (bass guitar) had been joined by sisters Ann Wilson (lead vocals and flute) and Nancy Wilson (rhythm guitar, backing and occasional lead vocals), Michael Derosier (drums), and Howard Leese (guitar and keyboards) to form the lineup for the band's initial mid- to late-1970s success period.[2] These core members were included in the band's 2013 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[3]

Scotch Argus Butterfly:
Despite its name, the Scotch Argus is not only found in Scotland; it is also found at two sites in the north of England. A freshly emerged Scotch Argus is a sight to behold; the dark brown velvety upper sides making the butterfly appear almost jet black from a distance. The butterfly is unmistakable when seen basking with its wings open, when orange bands containing distinctive spots are revealed. This butterfly lives in well-defined colonies that are often very large.
Like the Mountain Ringlet, the ability of this butterfly to survive cool temperatures means that it was probably one of the first species to recolonise the British Isles after the last ice age, over 10,000 years ago. The English colonies, Arnside Knott and Smardale Gill, are both found in Westmorland. Colonies are much more numerous in Scotland, where this butterfly can be found in most of northern, western and southwest Scotland. This butterfly is absent from the lowlands of central Scotland, many of the western isles (including the Outer Hebrides), Orkney and Shetland.

Scientific name: "Panurus Biarmicus"
Meaning behind the name:
Panurus = exceedingly tailed (no doubt referring to their long tail)
Biarmicus = bearded, which refers to its moustached appearance / with two beard stripes. The same Latin name "Biarmicus" is also given to the Lanner Falcon due to its masked bearded appearanceon it's face.
The original English name was "Bearded titmouse" in 1776, and renamed "Bearded tit" in 1843.
A more appropriate name "Reedling" was used from the Middle English period, (of which my references doesn't give a year). The name "Reedling" speaks for itself as the species is so attached to living in Reed-beds.
Yr Wyddfa (Welsh name for Snowdon) is the highest peak in Wales & England. I ache in places that I didn't know could ache.
In 1991, when I broke my neck the first time, I was told that I would never walk without assistance. I've broken my neck again since then, as well as my back twice - vertebrae C3-5, T7-9 & L3-5. I also survived a stroke 10 years ago. I've had to learn to walk twice from these incidents but I've been lucky in that my Spinal Cord has remained intact.
It just goes to show that almost anything is possible if we're resilient and determined.
If anyone says you can't, tell them you can.
If anyone says you won't, shout at them that you will.
