I was bewitched by the friendly relationship between these two foals; in the next autumn they will be tamed and started their sporting profession. Only then will it be given a name,
by the Stud or from those who will buy them directly or at auctions.

Common in name and number, but each one unique in my eyes and still inspiring joy and intrigue.
These common crow butterflies seem to favour resting on the trails of tears succulent I have. This past week I've seen one or two there every day.
Also known as the oleander butterfly due to them laying their eggs on the leaves of plants that have a milky sap such as oleander and two species of fig, amongst others.
This is specifically Euploea core ssp. corinna.
Wingspan around 90 mm.

Malus floribunda, common name Japanese flowering crabapple, Japanese crab, purple chokeberry, or showy crabapple, originates from Japan and East Asia. It may be a hybrid of M. toringo with M. baccata, in which case it would be written as Malus × floribunda.
This crabapple species is considered one of the best crabapples for form and flower[8] and has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

The word sail, a monument to poetry, is the name of a steel sculpture by Heinrich Popp.
The sculpture stands on an open field northwest of Sotzweiler, the birthplace of the sculptor and today a district of the Saarland municipality of Tholey in the district of St. Wendel. On an elevation of about 338 metres above NHN, the sculpture represents a landmark visible from afar.
The word sail consists of two sail-shaped triangles, one of which stands on the top and which are twisted against each other. The two halves of the sail, made of stainless steel, are welded together at their highest point. At the same time, the empty space between the two steel plates also has a sail-like shape, depending on the point of view.
The monument, a gift from Heinrich Popp to his home community, was erected in 2005 after several years of planning and execution. The two steel plates were cast in the Dillinger Hütte and rolled to a thickness of 3 cm. The sculpture has a height of 13 meters and a total weight of approx. 30 tons.
The term word sail is also the name of a writing and poetry competition initiated by the artist at participating schools in Saarland.

Grey-crowned Babbler
Scientific Name: Pomatostomus temporalis
Description: The Grey-crowned Babbler is the largest of Australia's four babbler species. It is dark brown-grey above, with a distinctive grey crown stripe and a dark face mask that contrasts with a white eyebrow. The chin and throat are white, running into a pale grey lower breast. It has a long, curved bill, short rounded wings with cinnamon brown wing patches and a long tail tipped white. The eye is pale yellow in adults. There is a darker-coloured subspecies, rubeculus, in north-western Australia (often called the Red-breasted Babbler), that has a rufous lower breast and darker crown stripe. The Grey-crowned Babbler is a noisy and gregarious bird, usually found in small groups of four to twelve, and is often seen on the ground or in low trees. It is sometimes called the Yahoo, after one of its calls.
Similar species: The Grey-crowned Babbler lacks the dark crown of other babblers and has a yellow rather than a dark eye.
Distribution: The Grey-crowned Babbler is widespread throughout north-western, northern, central and eastern Australia. It is also found in Papua New Guinea.
Habitat: The Grey-crowned Babbler is found in open forests and woodlands, favouring inland plains with an open shrub layer, little ground cover and plenty of fallen timber and leaf litter. May be seen along roadsides and around farms. In south-east Melbourne, small populations survive on golf courses.
Seasonal movements: Sedentary.
Feeding: Grey-crowned Babblers feed on insects and other invertebrates and sometimes eat seeds. They forage in groups of two to fifteen birds on the ground among leaf litter, around fallen trees and from the bark of shrubs and trees (they tend to use trees more than other babblers).
Breeding: Grey-crowned Babblers live and breed in co-operative territorial groups of two to fifteen birds (usually four to twelve). Groups normally consist of a primary breeding pair along with several non-breeding birds (sometimes groups may contain two breeding pairs or two females that both breed). Most members of the group help to build nests, with the primary female contributing the most effort. Two types of nest are built: roost-nests (usually larger and used by the whole group) and brood-nests (for the breeding females), and often old nest sites are renovated and re-used from year to year. The large domed nests are placed in a tree fork 4 m - 7 m high and are made of thick sticks with projections that make a hood and landing platform for the entrance tunnel. The nest chamber is lined with soft grass, bark, wool and feathers. The brooding female (sometimes more than one) is fed by the other group members and all help to feed the nestlings. Larger groups tend to raise more young, and two broods are usually raised per season.
Calls: Loud scolding and chattering calls: 'wee-oo'. Also distinctive 'ya-hoo' duet by breeding female ('yah') and male ('ahoo') repeated six to eight times.
Minimum Size: 25cm
Maximum Size: 29cm
Average size: 27cm
Average weight: 81g
Breeding season: July to February
Clutch Size: Usually two to three, up to five if more than one female.
Incubation: 23 days
Nestling Period: 23 days

Snipe are medium sized, skulking wading birds with short legs and long straight bills. Both sexes are mottled brown above, with paler buff stripes on the back, dark streaks on the chest and pale under parts. They are widespread as a breeding species in the UK, with particularly high densities on northern uplands but lower numbers in southern lowlands (especially south west England). In winter, birds from northern Europe join resident birds.
The UK population of snipe has undergone moderate declines overall in the past twenty-five years, with particularly steep declines in lowland wet grassland, making it an Amber List species. Info: RSPB.

“The Lightening Round”
This is going to be a fast round because this automobile is recognizable to most people who know American cars.
The prize will not be as nice as the garbage truck full of car parts. Whoever wins this round gets two pair of fuzzy dice (in the color of your choice), and a hula doll for the dashboard. Well worth it though.
If you also name the make of the boat we will throw in one of our lighthouses for your lawn. They are very popular with boat people.
Good luck contestants. The game starts now!
Addendum: The winner of this Lightening Round is Watchman with a 1959 Edsel. Your fuzzy dice and Hula doll are on the way.

6’8d - six shillings and eightpence - was a third of the old pre decimal British pound. Twelve pennies in a shilling. Twenty shillings in a pound. It was all rather complicated but there were certain tricks to make multiplication and addition easier, which I’ve now forgotten. If we were to go back to that system, and nothing would surprise me now, a lot of people would have difficulty with it - there would have to be an app.
I remember 6’8d once being the price of a “single” vinyl record.
Smile on Satureday: "Flower Name is First Name"
The only rose that is blooming in my garden at this time.
Named for the yellow "blush" marks on its face, the Yellow-spotted River Turtle (Podocnemis unifilis) calls the Amazon River and its tributaries home. It is a hefty creature, growing up to 18 inches in length, yet it is still agile in the water, flying through it like an underwater frisbee. Interestingly, these turtles are in a class of "side-necks," meaning that when they retract their heads for protection, they don't pull them straight in like the turtles native to North America. Instead, they fold them to the side and tuck them under their shells next to a leg!
These two, female on bottom, live in the Buffalo Zoo.
Photo taken very early in the day, with droplets of morning dew.
Theme: "First Name" (from a a flower)
Thank you for taking the time to view my photo, and for the faves and comments you make, thank you!
Mount Santubong's name may have been derived from the Iban word for coffin, but various Chinese derivations have also been suggested (San approximating the word for mountain in many dialects), as well Bidayuh, in whose lands the names of many hills start with S. Investigators have made ascents of the steep mountain to find places of archaeological interest. Around its foot are signs of Hindu occupation which are hundreds of years old which have been investigated by the Sarawak Museum. It was also the home of the early Sarawak Malays until they were driven up to Kuching in about the 1850s owing to continual attacks from the powerful Saribas Dayaks.[citation needed]
The mountain is made of sandstone, although it has been confused by many with limestone tower karst, or a volcanic plug: smaller versions of both appear not far inland. For a long time it interested those in search of gold but without success. There used to be an old theory that all the gold in the First Division of Sarawak lies in a straight line between Bau and Santubong which has some support in that there is a certain amount of gold in the mountain since fishermen in the past used to depend for their livelihood during the monsoon seasons, when the sea was too rough for fishing, by panning gold in the small mountain streams from which they could expect to gain an average of twenty dollars a month.
In this picture you get to see all the "4 iconic Santubongs" of Sarawak.
1. The mountain - Mt Santubong
2. The village - Santubong by the mountain.
3. The river - Santubong River @ Sungai Santubong
4. The famous Santubong Bridge.
