It's Friday. I don't usually do garage sales on Friday, but this one was just a couple blocks away. Looky what I found in a box along with a netgear wireless router...
The whole thing for a $dime (as in ten bucks)...
Haven't lit the scanner up yet, hope the bulb isn't gone on it....
Update: It don't just work, it's sweet. I don't think I can bring myself to sell this....

Our faithful Netgear ReadyNAS failed last week, had been playing up since we got back from our trip, After powering down it would not come back op again. I pulled it apart and cleaned out the huge amount of accumulated dust to no avail, tested the power supply rails 12v, 5v, 3.3 v all flat lines.
We purchased this NAS in 2009 and it has run 27/7 since then with only 1 disk failure, so decided it was time for a new one. After hours of research decided upon Synology DS414 which I got online with no drives for $550. Put the drives from the old NAS in and and restored the data from backup, yes we had a backup of the NAS! :> and we are back up and running.

I replaced this broadband router a few years ago and it's been languishing in its box, just taking up space, ever since. It's time to move it on to someone who's actually going to use it.
The UK-spec RangeMax comes in its original box (still with original shrink-wrap), including original packaging and documentation. It is in almost-perfect condition (with no obvious scratches or signs of use other than a little dust) and was working just fine when last used. It comes with:
- Original UK power supply
- Base stand
- Phone cables
- Resource CD version 2.2
- ADSL filter
- Original manuals and paperwork
The Netgear RangeMax Router DG834N currently sell for £49.99 on Amazon

Update Sept 13 2011, Added a few filler panels and rearranged every thing to prepare for future expansion. Also did better cable management and routed entire house's network through the rack to have a centralized switch instead of satellite switches.
Should arrive Friday (Oct 7) or Tuesday (Oct 11), Pictures will follow.
Can't wait!
Update: It has arrived and I have the OS installed, I'm waiting for 4 more 2TB hard drives (I already have 4) before I take my pictures

How to silence a Netgear GS-748T:
1. rip the small fans out,
2. make a 120mm bore in the top cover, directly over the main chipset
3. connect the red and black pins of the 3-pin Molex con to the onboard 2-pin Terminal
Now it's so silent, you won't even notice it running.
(The original 40mm fans seem to be optimized for maximum sound output)
My days of dial-up Internet connections are over. Since yesterday evening I have had a working ADSL connection. At 192Kb up and 64Kb down it may not be high-bandwidth but it is a lot faster then the dial-up connections I used previously.
