"Macro Monday"-"My Daily Routine"
I began washing dishes in earnest at my first job in a diner, when I was 15. By hand. All these years later, I am still washing dishes by hand. Never had an electric dish washer. Still hate this job. Everyday.
In september of 2019 I challenged myself to upload one photo every day to flickr.
That forced me to browse my then ~90k Lightroom catalog, select, review, and edit shots to find something to post.
And of course it also provided me with an incentive to take my gear out more regularly, even if the pandemic reduced the opportunity to travel, leading to some monotony in the available subjects.
Today marks a streak of 1,000 daily pictures:
www.flickr.com/photos/christiancorsano/albums/72157711201...
It is not always top quality shots, but I am still proud of the result, and more importantly of keeping the pace going.
Lack of time also led me to dramatically reduce the time I spend on the site, and I deeply apologize for not commenting or even responding to all your lovely comments, which I used to do in the beginning.
Hopefuly I will manage to fit that in my daily routine again soon.
And if you read that far, thank you so much for your visit !

Now for some technical details about this particular piece, as contrary to my 1st year celebration, this is more than just a montage:
This picture is generated by a small throwaway C# program, using Flickr APIs and a handful of dependencies (mainly ImageSharp).
The code starts loading all pages of the album, then proceed to load the size for each photo to get the URL of the "Large Square" 150px x 150px thumbnail and download them to memory.
This can take a couple of minutes, especially since I avoid hitting the Flickr API too hard (downloading the photos is fine though, so they are fetched in parallel), so the photo infos and thumbnails are cached to disk to allow quick iterations on the fun part: building the mosaic.
I went for 42 columns and 24 rows, which gives 1008 tiles to fill. It does mean that I take 8 random pictures and duplicate them to fill the gaps.
Going for the max resolution (because why not), final mosaic is 6300px x 3600px.
Next step is to prepare the pattern I want to match, here simple "1000" in text, so I generate a small image with the black text, written in 64pt.
It is low resolution, but that's fine as the scaled up version will have a nice blur that we would have to apply anyway.
To fill the pattern I started dumb, got okay results, tried a smarter solution, which made it worse, and went back to the dumb solution to refine it a bit.
The dumb solution was to compute the brightness of each of the photos, do the same with each tile of the text pattern, order the photos and tiles by that value and distribute them.
The smarter solution was to replace the brightness by the computation of a perceptive hash of each image and pattern tile, to be able to get a similarity score for each of them and place the best match on the tiles.
It didn't work well, I suspect because the hashing algorithm work best for very similar picture and here most of the pattern tiles are completely white or black gradient.
So taking some of the more involved sorting and matching and reinstating the brightness approach is what I went for.
Even with that, the lack of very dark pictures in my set meant cheating a bit, and I do reapply the text as a 0.2 opacity darkening mask on top of the completed mosaic.
If I ever get to rework the code to make it somewhat readable I might share it, so let me know if you are interested.
For Macro Mondays
Theme: My Daily Routine.
I always start my day with cappuccino.:)
Have a great week, my friends!:)
HMM!
Macro Mondays. This week's theme: "My daily routine". I have to empty the leaf skimmer baskets of the swimming pool daily.
For the Macro Mondays theme - (Part Of) My Daily Routine
I start every day with a nice healthy cup of green tea.
Happy Macro Monday. My daily routine includes looking at the photos of people I follow and choosing favorites. Photo of iPhone 5 taken with iPhone 6s.
Inspired by the clouds. Love Smartwater Sparkling! The effervescent bubbles just seem so happy as they dance to the top. Water is my favorite beverage and has forever been part of my daily routine.
I was glad to see that Brain Pickings was referenced in the description for this week's theme on Macro Mondays. I read it on Feedly which is also part of my daily routine. I like it because I can subscribe to the news I want and also subscribe to various blogs. Brain Pickings does an excellent job of highlighting very interesting philosophies.
One of my all-time favorite posts from Brain Pickings was about Bruce Lee/Be Water, My Friend. Such a great story. There is a clip from the Longstreet episode in the post, but this clip at about 6:50 puts it in some context.
I also love Shannon Lee's podcasts The Bruce Lee Podcast about her father's life and philosophies. Since it's weekly, it's definitely part of my weekly routine.
Be water, my friend...

The cat watches and knows My Daily Routine. Once Woody realizes that I am up in the morning, he follows me around until I eat breakfast. He jumps in my lap while I am at the computer checking email, Flickr, etc. He's in my lap while I read the Bible in my recliner. He sits next to me while I stretch and exercise. Most days, breakfast is next, but on Sundays I shower first. While I am showering Woody "guards" the refrigerator, because he knows that I get the milk out of it for my granola. When I finish my granola, he gets to lick the milk residue from the bowl. After breakfast, Woody finds a napping spot and I continue on with my routine. HMM
I had a couple of choice's for this weeks theme, parts of my bike , my shaver . but I opted for the shaver as the photos came out better.
I cycle to work daily and shave daily and obviously these take part of my daily routines.
I'm starting to get the hang of this Tamron 90mm now and really pleased with the quality of detail.
HMM everyone.
"My Daily Routine" is to make my house, a safer place !!
Yes, when you have 6 Year old boy, all your corners, carpets, plates are covered in Legos, Soldiers and other "cool" stuff ! And no one wants to deal with them after !
And I guess, you know that feeling when you step on them !!!?
Ugh LOL

My daily routine of walking always allows me to look across to Arran and Ailsa Craig ~ you can just see Ailsa Craig out on the horizon!
One thing that went wrong with my walk today was that I forgot to take my camera with me and that is very unusual ... so, today's photos were taken with my iPhone which I never ever forget to take with me!!

Thanks to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo …. Thanks to you all!
Also inspired by “Macro Mondays” and “My Daily Routine”. I'm grateful to the group admin, Janet Towbin, for mentioning Brain Pickings, "a subjective lens on what matters in the world and why."
I'd lost touch with the website, and I feel delighted to find it now. I didn't enter this, because it might not look like enough of a macro to enter. I reshot another macro.
Thank you for reminding me of the site, Janet, and thank you, anyone, for looking and commenting.
When I have my camera in my hand on an inspired and creative day, I start to take out all the things I need ... my mind goes totally crazy, I see photos everywhere and in everything, it's controlled madness and very necessary to get my daily routine out of my mind... then I have to stop and choose between everything that happened... this is the result! I love macro photography!
These are three simple drops of water full of color!
Thank you very much for the visits, favorites and kind comments.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 18th of August is "soap foam". Even before the advent of the Coronavirus pandemic, I was always a fastidious handwasher: something drilled into my daily routine by my grandparents when I was child. Therefore, to whip up some delicate foam from my current bar of lily-of-the-valley hand soap was a pleasure to do for the sake of the theme! I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.
Let's go!
Although a 365 begins, much without a plan, it feels right. I need a project, on which to concentrate, that brings a creative spark to my daily routine. I'm unsure how it will develop, as the year progresses. However, Stroodle is most happy to have a daily walk, this I know for sure.
I didn't have to think long about an idea for the theme of this week. Music is -together with photography- a huge part of my life. There isn't a day that goes past without having listened to music, so I think this was the only right thing to do for this week! :)
Side note : Yes, I used tape to keep the earbuds in their place on the mirror, because I wanted to make the shape of a heart. :)
Huge thank you to everybody who helped getting this picture in Explore! It means a lot to me!

A problem I face in my daily routine, is my TWISTED NERVES!
Comment on the image, not me please
I check my activities every morning on my phone.
These are just PIXELS.
But go far away from your screen and you can see parts of the blue and magenta dots of the flickr logo.
I took an ultra-macro photo of the icon of the flickr-app on my Samsung S7, which has a resolution of about 550 ppi (pixels per inch). So the length of this frame is in reality only 1.2mm (or 0.045 inches)!!!
I took it with retro-mounting my 16-35mm (@16mm / f10). Distance to the screen was only about a finger large. Additionally, the photo is heavily cropped to get an even higher magnification.
I did a very similar shot 3 1/2 years ago, and if you read the description there, you can see how much higher ther resolution has become meanwhile on smartphones:
I guess in a couple of years I won't be able to take such a shot anymore...
This was shot for Macro Monday's "My Daily Routine" theme. This is a close up of my 7 month old son's eye. I am currently on parental leave and taking care of him during the day. My daily routine is centered around him and his brothers.
Thanks for viewing and happy Macro Monday!
....caffeine - for Macro Mondays my daily routine theme.
I had to experiment to catch the steam - back illumination with a torch from the side did the trick!

Prima di uscire non può mancare una spruzzata del mio profumo preferito, la collana di perle di mamma ed un velo di rossetto..
For Macro Mondays - My Daily Routine. The newspaper arrives on our driveway each morning between 4-4:30am and part of my routine is to retrieve it while the coffee brews so I can have a glance at it before getting the day underway. This morning it didn't arrive til 7:45 so my daily routine was disrupted! The paper comes wrapped in a plastic wrapper which, at times can be hard to get off.
Happy Macro Monday!!
This weeks Macro Monday theme is (Part of) My Daily Routine. When I was washing a small chopping board which has time rubber feet to stop it slipping when in use I decided that nothing gets more routine than that! This is the wet rubber feet!
(Size: 5 rubber feet = 4cm, approx 1 3/4inches)
One of the heads on my Phillishave electric shaver.
For this week’s theme of (Part of) My Daily Routine, this seemed like a logical choice, a daily chore that’s carried out at least five time a week!
I used a set of three extension tubes, in addition to my macro lens, to get in as close as possible (excuse the pun), and lit the shaving head from underneath with a red light for added effect.
It was quite surreal to see this in such great detail, including the cutting blades inside, when it’s something I handle most days without really thinking about it.
Happy Macro Monday everyone!
