To say that I have an internal struggle with the Bible would be an understatement. Between being raised in the Bible Belt, attending a Christian school, and belonging to a family where everyone (aunts, uncles, cousins included) is Christian, I know a thing or two about guilt and begging God for forgiveness.
So, when I was listening to the song list from the Musically Challenged group this week, the lyrics from Cursive Eye by I:Scintilla really spoke to me.
Here is my interpretation of the song. I'm not trying to say anything about the Bible here... just my own personal struggle with it.
It saddened me to have to tear apart a book for this image, but it was a crappy novel I bought from Target and I recycled the pages when I was finished with the shot. :)
Day 118/365
Recently returned from a wonderful, heart-warming, musically and culturally rich trip to New Orleans... and what am I posting? A photo of empty buildings in the Lower Ninth Ward, a strange mixture of rebuilding, standing ruins and empty weedy blocks like open fields.
Still volunteers gutting and/or rebuilding homes, still a great spirit of renewal and creativity. And still these ghost-town sights unfolded. Christmas eve, 2008.

Two weeks in NOLA for the mardi gras 2017
Founded in 1993, the Krewe of Orpheus takes its name from the musically-inclined son of Zeus and Calliope. Founding members included Harry Connick, both the junior and senior.
In New Orleans, the krewe established themselves as a superkrewe with their first parade in 1994, which rolled with 700 riders. They were the first super Krewe to allow both male and female riders.
The Krewe's throws include a number of popular items including emblem beads, stuffed animals, signature beads, light-up Orpheus medallion beads, cups, three different types of doubloons, and 4-foot-long stuffed dragons.
They have a number of notable floats including the Dolly Trolley, the horse-drawn bus that was used in the opening of Hello Dolly with Barbra Streisand, the Smoking Mary which is a six unit float that looks like a steam locomotive, a Trojan horse and the Orpheus Leviathan Float, which is a three unit, 139-foot float, and the first Carnival float to use extensive fiber optic lighting.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Fats Domino wass the honorary grand marshall for 2014. His eldest son, Antoine Domino III, rode in the parade and perform his 85 year old father's music.
In addition to Fats Domino, Quentin Tarantino reigned as the krewe's celebrity monarch.
Because I never know what to say to someone who's lost a loved one.. Because I think most of the time all they really want is for someone to be there - someone who knows - who gets it - who misses someone too.. This song says it all - beautifully. It's also a great reminder that we are lucky if we have a handful of people that we will miss - or that will miss us when we're gone.

A super musically-fulfilling night last Thursday! On a commencé avec le compétition de freestyle #LEFREESTYLE avec notre gagnant URBN LOGIX et finaliste ANDROSS. Et vraiment tous les compétiteurs ont démontré un niveau de talent sérieusement impressionant. Un merci à CLAY (EOW) et MARK THE MAGNANIMOUS (qui doublait sur les platines), nos juges pour la soirée. Pour le jam, c'était la 1ère fois qu'on a acceuilli KALIBRE au microphone et BUTTA BEATS (certainement pas un étranger au jam) mais pour la 1ère fois dans le house band comme batteur. De sérieux moments musicaux! Et la piste de danse en feu aussi! Dernièrement il ne faut pas oublié DELI SOKOLOW avec la bonne bouffe.
On est là tous les jeudis pour #LECYPHER, la meilleure jam session de hip-hop et soul à Montréal, animé par URBAN SCIENCE.

Musically trained in London and schooled in the club scene of mid-'60s New York, Mulatu Astatke stands as the exceptional musical innovator of the Ethiopian groove. Starting in 1969, he created the first bands independent of the military, which had previously dominated the country's music scene. Having immersed himself in Caribbean music, funk, jazz and Latin grooves during his lengthy stint abroad, Mulatu returned to his native land to give rise to a brand new sound.
Two musically gifted women’s lives overlap over the boundaries of time in Rosalyn Story’s novel Sing Her Name. With racism barring her way, a nineteenth century concert artist can never achieve the place in history she deserves. Then, long after her death in poverty and obscurity, a 21st century waitress, talented but musically untaught, has a chance to revive this singer’s name and reach her own success–if her family ties don’t hold her back. With this project I wanna show how graffiti makes our environment more colorful. Therefore I try to capture the graffiti within its architectural surroundings which is set in b/w only while the graffiti remains in its colorful original tone. Enjoy!
