Two weeks in NOLA for the mardi gras 2017
Founded in 1993, the Krewe of Orpheus takes its name from the musically-inclined son of Zeus and Calliope. Founding members included Harry Connick, both the junior and senior.
In New Orleans, the krewe established themselves as a superkrewe with their first parade in 1994, which rolled with 700 riders. They were the first super Krewe to allow both male and female riders.
The Krewe's throws include a number of popular items including emblem beads, stuffed animals, signature beads, light-up Orpheus medallion beads, cups, three different types of doubloons, and 4-foot-long stuffed dragons.
They have a number of notable floats including the Dolly Trolley, the horse-drawn bus that was used in the opening of Hello Dolly with Barbra Streisand, the Smoking Mary which is a six unit float that looks like a steam locomotive, a Trojan horse and the Orpheus Leviathan Float, which is a three unit, 139-foot float, and the first Carnival float to use extensive fiber optic lighting.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Fats Domino wass the honorary grand marshall for 2014. His eldest son, Antoine Domino III, rode in the parade and perform his 85 year old father's music.
In addition to Fats Domino, Quentin Tarantino reigned as the krewe's celebrity monarch.
I think this was the coldest day of the 2014 Texas Renaissance Festival all season - it was downright nasty with bone-chilling cold, a big storm moving in - but pretty good shooting conditions considering the heavy overcast. There photos are from Saturday of the Barbarian Invasion weekend, usually one of the most crowded weekends at TRF. I think only the diehard Rennies came out to day, but it was still a blast!

Roxy Music are an English art rock group formed in 1971 by Bryan Ferry, who became the group's lead vocalist and chief songwriter. The other members are Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe) and Paul Thompson (drums and percussion). Former members include Brian Eno (synthesizer and "treatments"), and Eddie Jobson (synthesizer and violin). Although the band took a break from group activities in 1983, they reunited for a concert tour in 2001, and have toured together intermittently since that time.

It would have been Roxy's first record with Brian Eno since 1973, who wrote two songs for it as well as played keyboards.[4] However, Bryan Ferry eventually confirmed that material from these sessions would be released as a Ferry solo album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks,"[5] and that he doesn't think they'll record as Roxy Music again.[6] Subsequently, this was confirmed by the announcement of a solo Bryan Ferry album, entitled Olympia.

Today Perry asked me in response to me talking about moving back to California next year: what if I were to fall in love and get engaged before I was planning on moving. he was trying to get me to understand that I shouldnt make plans too far ahead or I will become disappointed if it doesnt happen.
but back to the question at hand. I highly doubt I will be "in love" and "engaged" in one year. I mean it COULD happen. but the guy would have to be SUPER AMAZING, and even at that - I dont want to be in Florida, I'm homesick, I miss my friends and family back home. I am tired of compromising how I plan on living my life for anyone else. I will be doing what makes me happy or makes me feel good about everything.
I'm half tempted to just up and move this Fall. I'll be looking up classes now that the urge to move back is getting stronger and stronger by the day. There isnt much for me to stay here and I'm getting really restless.

I'm about done with everything. Stop messing with my head. I was trying to give a girl relationship advice the other night since she said the guy she was seeing was playing mind games with her. After all I said to her to try and help her out with her situation and show her that maybe he's not the right guy for her, and that I think it would be best if she just cut her losses now and move on, she replied: no, I'm going to string him along and mess with his head since thats what he's doing to me.

The ambassadors of the US, Russia, Britain and France sat in line one.
This was the last act in the series of commemoration events at the end of the Second World War and its consequences. There was much talk of the joy of that May 15, 1955, but also of the victim role of Austria and the guilt of the crimes of the Nazis. "Many Austrians were part of the Nazi mass murder machinery," said Ostermayer.
The sacrificial myth had been maintained for too long, said Vice Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner. There was an individual guilt, Austria was also partly responsible for the Second World War. At that time, Leopold Figl had this passage claimed out from the preamble to the State Treaty - these were then presented by the Burgtheater actors Elisabeth Orth and Michael Heltau. He could not be reproached for this, he, as a Nazi victim, had been "at peace with himself," according to Mitterlehner.

Oh I didn't think up that little line. I pinched it from a song. Which is were all the best lines come from, that and maybe the dictionary. It might not have them all in the right order but it's like the pick and mix section in the shop, you grab the bits you like till you have bag full of tastiness to pop in your mouth. The only difference being that the line are coming from the other direction. And they're not sweeties. Well they could be, it depends on what you're planning on saying. It could be those sweet sweet words that melt a hear like...um...."Gimme some sugar, baby". It's subtle but who could resist such poetry.
Well you might. And probably you. You, you and you could probably think of something better and you might actually hand over a bag of sugar and giggle away afterwards. Well the classics do fade after a while but I'd never refuse a bag of sugar, a spoonful of sugar helps my tea to go down.
A few days ago the warm side of the window would have been the outside but today the inside has reclaimed it's place as the toasty of the two. And now I can go out without having to lurk in the shadows to protect my vampiric paleness. For today I am King....Hail to the King, baby ;o)

Singing Room for a Shy Person gives visitors the opportunity to express themselves musically without being inhibited by shyness. In the process, the singing is transposed to a new musical plane by Bhatnagar’s instruments. The outcome of the interaction with the artwork thus becomes just as dependent on the artwork’s parameters as on the singing person’s performance.
The exhibition METAMATIC Reloaded is the result of an international call for entries issued by the Dutch Métamatic Research Initiative (MRI) in 2009. Artists were called on to tackle, from today’s perspective, the topic and concept of Jean Tinguely’s drawing machines, called Méta-Matics which are among his most important groups of work and inventions. The outcome of the pro-cesses, a total of ten projects by internationally renowned and also young, up-and-coming artists, will be all together on show for the first time in Basel from October 23, 2013, with works by: Marina Abramović, Ranjit Bhatnagar, John Bock, Olaf Breuning, Thomas Hirschhorn, Aleksandra Hirszfeld, Jon Kessler, Pors & Rao, João Simões and Brigitte Zieger.

Throughout Harriet Backer's 50-year career, women's rights changed radically. Being a woman and an artist became accepted. Backer was talented and determined, inspiring a new generation of women and men in the Norwegian art world.
In Backer’s family, art and culture were part of how the children were raised. Her older sister Agathe was musically gifted and wanted to become a pianist. She had to go abroad to learn, and Harriet became her sister's traveling companion. This gave Harriet the opportunity to visit art museums and get to know the historical masters of the art world at a young age. Agathe eventually became a renowned composer and concert pianist, while Harriet became an important artist.
Backer showed an early talent and interest in art, but embarked on full-time studies rather late in life. In 1874, at 29 years, she decided to travel to Munich. The art community in Norway was small, so one had to go abroad.
The art academies in Europe were reserved for men in those days, but women could receive private tuition or attend "women's classes". During her years in Munich, Backer had several teachers. In 1878 she moved to Paris to continue her studies.
Being accepted for exhibition at the Salon in Paris was an important step on the path to becoming a professional artist. In 1880, Backer was accepted with the painting Solitude. Hundreds of artists exhibited at these exhibitions at the same time, and the paintings hung close together, from floor to ceiling. The jury thought Backer's painting was excellent, and she was honoured with a diploma, known as a Mention honorable.
In Munich, Backer learned to paint in a style characterised by a high level of detail and dark colours. We see this for example in Avskjeden (The Farewell), from 1878. When she came to Paris, she was greatly inspired by impressionism. In one of her best-known paintings, Blått interiør (Blue Interior), painted five years after Avskjeden, the transformation of her painting style is evident. Clear and pure colours dominate the composition. From this point on, the interaction between figure, interior and light effects became a theme that permeated Backer's paintings. How to create contrasts between the light indoors and outdoors? How are colours perceived in lamplight compared to daylight? She approached her subjects with these issues in mind.
Backer started her career with a desire to become a portrait painter. She painted many friends and acquaintances, and also received portrait commissions. But it is her interior scenes she has become best known for. She painted interiors from all walks of life – from farmhouses to bourgeois living rooms. For the most part, Backer's rooms are populated by women.

In 1888, Backer established herself in Norway, and from 1892 to 1910 ran a painting school in Kristiania. She became a popular teacher. Her openness to new ideas in both art and social development was appreciated. She sympathised with the women's movement, but did not actively participate in political work.
In the women's cause, Backer was recognised more for what she did than what she said – as a renowned artist she was an important role model. Together with friend and fellow artist Kitty Kielland, she was a pioneer who paved the way for women to have the opportunity to choose art as a career path.

On 11 June 2022 the new National Museum opened in Oslo. This is the largest museum in the Nordics. The new museum now consists of the collections of the former National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Norwegian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design.
The new museum has a permanent exhibition of about 6 500 objects. Design, arts and crafts, fine art as well as contemporary art will be exhibited alongside each other. As such, the permanent exhibition highlights interesting connections between different collections that previously have been on show at three different museums. Additionally, audiences will be able to see the most famous paintings by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch, including The Scream (1893) and Madonna (1894).
The building was designed by Kleihues + Schuwerk Gesellschaft von Architekten, with emphasis on dignity and longevity over sensationalist architecture. Great care was given to achieve a balance with the museum’s surroundings and the existing monuments in the area, such as Oslo City Hall and Akershus Fortress.
The most eye-catching feature of the new museum is the large, illuminated exhibition hall on top of the building. It will be used for temporary exhibitions.
The rooftop terrace offers a unique view of the inner Oslo fjord. The square in front of the main entrance has become an urban meeting place, with benches and a café that invites you in to take a rest.

This week, the 615 wants to give you a look at an artist that might very well be the “Next Big Thing” on an international level. There are some elements of country, or even bluegrass in the music of Josh Doyle, but the Nashville-based singer-songwriter is much too varied musically to be put in just one musical genre. In fact, according to our ears, he — while not imitating them — could very be one of those artist that stand by themselves musically, a la John Mayer or Josh Groban. His self-titled album, out now, is a major reflection of his talent.
The UK native admits that he doesn’t concern himself with musical classifications that much. He just wants to make sure the audiences like what he is doing.
“That’s kind of my thing. I want to be an entertainer more than a singer-songwriter because it gets boring just singing slow songs all night for me. We now live in an iPod generation where everybody likes everything. I’m kind of like a human iPod - you can stick me in all different kinds of music - well, maybe except gangsta rap,” he says with a sly smile.
Doyle’s album was produced by John Shanks - (Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow) and resulted from a contest he won. “I won the singer-songwriter competition through Guitar Center, and working with him was so cool. It was supposed to be a three-song EP, but when we got into the studio, we just started to record and track so quick.”
The highlight of the album - and a song that could very well be break him is “I Want To Break Your Mended Heart.” Of the cut, Doyle explains it by saying “I love that song. It’s about breaking up with a girl, and her throwing things up all in your face. You think ‘We were this close then, but now you’re parading around with this guy. Now, you’re so happy again, and put back together with someone else. I want to wreck that completely. Someone told me once that guys like songs about breaking things up, and girls like songs about putting things together, and love. It’s like my shout out to the guys. I don’t sit down and write a song about someone who is angry, as much as I just write what I am feeling at the moment. Luckily, I’ve spun a few phrases in there, like I want to break your mended heart, which I’ve never heard before in a song, which I thought was cool. At the same time, I was listening to a lot of Bee Gees, especially ‘How Do You Mend A Broken Heart.’ They were such great songwriters.”
Doyle has played all over the Music City club circuit for awhile. “I’ve sort of been the ‘Forrest Gump’ of the Nashville scene. I’ve kind of been on the periphery of everything. When I came over here, I had been in a band before, and had some cred, so I was in with some of the managers in town. But, I’ve always been on the outside. Jack White, Kings of Leon, and Ben Folds Five have really made their mark here. I think Nashville attracts people because the songs that have came out of here have a great deal of craftsmanship about them, but they are real. It’s one of the great music scenes anywhere.”
As far as goals with his album, he says he’s already accomplished one. “I gave up my job at a restaurant about two months ago, so that’s one goal massively fulfilled. I tell people that I would be happy to still be making music for people this year. I think that if people hear the album, it can touch a lot of people, and they will empathize with it. I would love to be doing our own tours, and have people actually coming to see me because people hear the songs and they love them. It’s a long-term thing. My manager wants me to go all the way, and I’m with them.”

I had to work easter sunday, and with all the lack of sleep and partying I did all weekend, I was dead tired, headache from hell, starting to get feverish and chills, it was just bad. I was cranky and blahhhh and on top of that I had to finish my homework for marketing class.
So after work I headed home and started working. It's going on 11PM now and I am almost done but so much for an early night in. :(
So today was one of the first few days since Donnie and I broke up that I wish I had someone to go home to that could give me a massage, cuddle with me and take care of me because I was seriously feeling horrible.

Treat Her Right is a blues rock group formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1984. The band originally featured Mark Sandman on guitar, Billy Conway on drums, Dave Champagne on guitar, and Jim Fitting on harmonica. Singing and songwriting duties were shared by all but Conway. Champagne and Fitting reformed the band in 2009 with new members Steve Mayone and Billy Beard.
In addition to being the forerunner to the successful indie rock band Morphine, Treat Her Right is often credited with helping to spawn the punk-blues hybrid (sometimes dubbed cowpunk, among other titles) that achieved prominence in the early 2000s.
History
Career (1984–1998)
The band derived its name from the 1965 international smash hit by Roy Head and the Traits, "Treat Her Right." The group's self-financed and self-titled debut was released on a small Boston record label in 1986, and their first recording attempt was a modest success - Champagne's "I Got a Gun" and Sandman's cover of James Blood Ulmer's "Where Did All the Girls Come From?" received some play on college radio. "I Think She Likes Me" describes Sandman's experience in a Fairplay, Colorado bar where a woman came on to him. The group signed to RCA Records, who reissued the debut in 1988.
Tied to the Tracks was issued in 1989. Sales did not meet RCA's expectations. In the notes for their third record, the group writes, "RCA decided that if our little basement tape could do so well, why not spend fifty times more money and it will be fifty times better! (They think everything works like that.)" Treat Her Right were dropped from their RCA contract.
What's Good for You, their third album, was issued on Rounder Records in 1991. The ragged, live-in-the-studio sound was partly modeled on the model established by Chess Records, which had released many classic blues and early rock and roll records. Shortly after this third release, Treat Her Right disbanded.

Other projects and post-breakup
Fitting later played with The The, The Coots and Session Americana. Champaign remained musically active, playing with groups such as The Jazz Popes. Sandman formed Morphine in 1989, which Conway joined in 1993. Although more blues-based than Morphine, Treat Her Right sowed the seeds of Sandman's later sound with its unusual instrumentation (Sandman's guitar with Treat Her Right was a three string custom model, making it sound more like a bass guitar) and slightly dark focus, most evident on the Sandman-penned songs.
Sandman died of a heart attack while onstage with Morphine in Italy in 1999.
Reformation (2009–present)
The Treat Her Right song "Rhythm & Booze" was featured on The Hangover soundtrack, released in 2009. In the summer of this same year, The Lost Album, a record of unreleased Treat Her Right material, was released by Hi-n-Dry. Shortly thereafter, Treat Her Right reunited to mark the ten-year anniversary of Sandman's death at the Mark Sandman Memorial Concert in September, and the band continued activity thereafter. Champagne and Fitting led the new version of Treat Her Right, joined by Steve Mayone playing low guitar and Billy Beard (previously of the Boston new wave band Face to Face) playing drums.

Roxy Music are an English art rock group formed in 1971 by Bryan Ferry, who became the group's lead vocalist and chief songwriter. The other members are Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe) and Paul Thompson (drums and percussion). Former members include Brian Eno (synthesizer and "treatments"), and Eddie Jobson (synthesizer and violin). Although the band took a break from group activities in 1983, they reunited for a concert tour in 2001, and have toured together intermittently since that time.
Roxy Music attained popular and critical success in the UK, Europe and Australia during the 1970s and early 1980s, beginning with their debut album, Roxy Music (1972).[1] The band was highly influential, as leading proponents of the more experimental, musically sophisticated element of glam, as well as a significant influence on early English punk music. They also provided a model for many New Wave acts and the experimental electronic groups of the early 1980s. The group is distinguished by their visual and musical sophistication and their preoccupation with style and glamour.[2] Ferry and co-founding member Eno have also had influential solo careers, the latter becoming one of the most significant record producers and collaborators of the late 20th century.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked Roxy Music #98 on its "The Immortals – 100 The Greatest Artists of All Time" list.[3]
A new studio album, which would have been their ninth, began recording in 2005. It would have been Roxy's first record with Brian Eno since 1973, who wrote two songs for it as well as played keyboards.[4] However, Bryan Ferry eventually confirmed that material from these sessions would be released as a Ferry solo album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks,"[5] and that he doesn't think they'll record as Roxy Music again.[6] Subsequently, this was confirmed by the announcement of a solo Bryan Ferry album, entitled Olympia.
