Friday afternoon, as the sun popped in and out of the clouds, I travelled to Granville Island, an area across from downtown, where locals and tourists go for food, shopping, and cultural activities. I searched for a quiet spot, away from the crowds, to watch the birds on the water and listen to the sounds of nature. Happy to discover a new place to relax.

I love adventuring!

To recap: On Sunday, January 21st, I completed Cycle 39 Week 2. I have Multiple Myeloma and anemia, a rare cancer of the immune system. It is incurable, but treatable. Since February 9th 2015, I have been on Pomalyst and dexamethasone chemo treatment (Pom/dex). On July 16th, my dexamethasone treatment ended, due to eye damage, as reported by my Glaucoma Specialist, from long-term use. On January 9th I began Ninlaro chemo as my cancer levels have been steadily rising.

Sorting through a lot of work lately, but here's a fun one I worked on the other night:

I went out experimenting this past weekend and since my lady was out of town, I had to get in front of the camera for this one. Shot wide and narrow to open up my dof from front to back.

Here's how NOT to model, folks: stand there with the same stupid look on your face with your hands in your pockets. Tyra Banks would not approve. I guess that's what you get when you don't strobe, and have to sit through 2-3 second exposures. I have some where I moved for motion blur, but didn't dig 'em. Next time -- lights!

Thanks for checking it out!

“ El bosque me invita a observar

cada especie en su ritual.

Elefantes, pajaritos, monos, caballos, perros;

Red Army troops adopted a nickname from Mikhail Isakovsky's popular wartime song, "Katyusha", about a girl longing for her absent beloved, who has gone away on military service. Katyusha is the Russian equivalent of Katie, an endearing diminutive form of the name Katherine: Yekaterina →Katya →Katyusha.

German troops coined the nickname "Stalin's organ" (German: Stalinorgel), after Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, comparing the visual resemblance of the launch array to a church organ, and the sound of the weapon's rocket motors, a distinctive howling sound which terrified the German troops

Another multiple exposure. I was influenced by the work of Hodaka Yamamoto, who was the first person I had seen to then reflect these exposures to symmetry.

Friday evening I travelled to Lynn Loop trail in North Vancouver. I stopped to watch the rushing water flowing down Lynn Creek - alone with my thoughts.

Spending time in nature always makes me happy and has a positive benefit on my health.

Parking meters in Vancouver have these numbers so you can pay by cellphone. Sometimes, like all the ones here, they are multiples of 37. I keep an eye out for them sometimes. The round one is the first one I ever noticed, right outside the door of the building where I used to work. It's round because it's a single meter on a pole, instead of a double.

Eight people were hurt Thursday morning when an SUV collided with a minibus carrying clients of Pioneer Center for Human Services near Woodstock.

Woodstock firefighters responded about 8:15 a.m. Thursday to the intersection of Franklinville and Perkins roads in Seneca Township for the two-vehicle crash, Woodstock Fire Capt. Scott Nieman said.

Eight people from the Pioneer Center bus were taken to the three Centegra hospitals - in Woodstock, Huntley and McHenry - for treatment of minor injuries and precautionary measures, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. The McHenry-based nonprofit serves thousands of individuals each year - including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the homeless, according to its website.

A white SUV could be seen with front-end damage, and a white, unmarked passenger van was in a ditch on the south side of Perkins Road after the crash.

Franklinville Road was shut down for at least an hour from Kunde Road to Perkins Road.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2016 Ford F-450 Bus, driven by Celetra Moses, 24, of Woodstock, was traveling east on Perkins Road and had stopped at the stop sign, police said. A 52-year-old Marengo woman was driving a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe north on Franklinville Road and did not have a stop sign.

Moses failed to yield to the Hyundai and entered the intersection, where the two vehicles collided, police said. She was cited for failing to yield at an intersection.

Police do not suspect alcohol played a role in the crash.

The Pioneer Center confirmed the crash occurred in a statement on its website Thursday.

The nonprofit's co-CEO, Sam Tenuto, said the bus was taking individuals with disabilities from one of the Pioneer Center's group homes in Woodstock to day program services in McHenry.

Tenuto said staff is required to go through an online defensive driving course and "hands-on behind-the-wheel" training.

"We have a very good driving history here at Pioneer," Tenuto said. "Based on what we've seen so far, I don't see a need to change anything."

McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Sandra Rogers said two other crashes with injuries were recorded at the same intersection in 2012 and 2014.

Rogers said she did not know any identifying information about the individuals on the bus.

Union, Wonder Lake, Huntley, Crystal Lake, Marengo, Harvard, Nunda Rural, McHenry Township, Spring Grove and Cary fire protection districts also responded to the crash.

Multiple Exposure

I intentionally cropped and redacted this sign, posted in a clinic exam room, to protect both the innocent and the guilty.

Most of this sign is composed of the most overused inappropriate font ever, which needs no credit. Controversial typefaces Bradley Hand and Papyrus make jarring guest appearances. There's underlined text for fun, plus a smiley just asking for misinterpretation. And, adding to the typographical cacophony, a set of unnecessary quotation marks pays a visit. Maybe it's a good thing no errant apostrophes crashed this party.

As of December 2011, this sign has been replaced with a much simpler sign created entirely in the Lithos font.

This is from my first roll of 120 film! Nothing special. I'm surprised this photo even came out. I went a little crazy with the multiple exposures.
