A cable-stayed bridge has one or more towers (or pylons), from which cables support the bridge deck. A distinctive feature are the cables or stays, which run directly from the tower to the deck, normally forming a fan-like pattern or a series of parallel lines. This is in contrast to the modern suspension bridge, where the cables supporting the deck are suspended vertically from the main cable, anchored at both ends of the bridge and running between the towers. The cable-stayed bridge is optimal for spans longer than cantilever bridges and shorter than suspension bridges. This is the range within which cantilever bridges would rapidly grow heavier, and suspension bridge cabling would be more costly.
Cable-stayed bridges have been known since the 16th century and used widely since the 19th. Early examples often combined features from both the cable-stayed and suspension designs, including the Brooklyn Bridge. The design fell from favor through the 20th century as larger gaps were bridged using pure suspension designs, and shorter ones using various systems built of reinforced concrete. It once again rose to prominence in the later 20th century when the combination of new materials, larger construction machinery, and the need to replace older bridges all lowered the relative price of these designs.

The name day of Peter I falls on 29 June, when the Orthodox Church observes the memory of apostles Peter and Paul. The consecration of the small wooden church in their names (its construction began at the same time as the citadel) made them the heavenly patrons of the Peter and Paul Fortress, while Saint Peter at the same time became the eponym of the whole city. When in June 1703 Peter the Great renamed the site after Saint Peter, he did not issue a naming act that established an official spelling; even in his own letters he used diverse spellings, such as Санктьпетерсьбурк (Sanktpetersburk), emulating German Sankt Petersburg, and Сантпитербурх (Santpiterburkh), emulating Dutch Sint-Pietersburgh, as Peter was multilingual and a Hollandophile. The name was later normalized and russified to Санкт-Петербург (Saint-Petersburg).

The Prague Metro (Pražské metro) is the rapid transit network of Prague, Czech Republic. Founded in 1974, the Prague Metro now comprises three lines (A, B and C), serving 61 stations (predominantly with island platform), and consists of a transit network 65.2 kilometres long. Prague Metro system served 589.2 million passengers in 2012, making it the fifth busiest metro system in Europe.
The Prague Metro has three lines, each represented by its own colour on the maps and signs: Line A (green, 17 stations, 17 km), Line B (yellow, 24 stations, 26 km) and Line C (red, 20 stations, 22 km). There are 61 stations in total (three of which are transfer stations) connected by nearly 66 kilometres of mostly underground railways. The metro service operates from 4-5 am until midnight, with about two- to three-minute intervals between trains during rush hours.
The metro is run by the Prague Public Transit Company Co. Inc. (in Czech officially Dopravní podnik hlavního města Prahy a.s.) which manages all means of public transport around the city (the metro, tramways, buses, 5 ferries, the funicular to Petřín Hill and the chairlift inside Prague Zoo).
Since 1993, this system has been connected to commuter trains and buses and also to "park-and-ride" parking lots. Together they form an extensive public transportation network reaching further from the city, called Prague Integrated Transport (in Czech Pražská integrovaná doprava—PID). Whilst the large system is zonally priced, the metro is entirely inside the central zone.
Many Prague Metro stations are quite large, with several entrances spaced relatively far apart. This can often lead to confusion for those unfamiliar with the system, especially at the central hubs such as Můstek or Muzeum. In general the stations are well signposted even for those unfamiliar with the Czech language. In the center is planned introduction of multilingual signs. The Prague metro is at a high level in terms of safety.[7]

Después de la II Guerra Mundial, se paralizaron los trabajos debido a la situación de pobreza del país, pese a que las tres líneas ya estaban proyectadas.
En los años 60 se aceptó la idea de construir un tranvía subterráneo y el 9 de agosto de 1967 se inició la construcción del actual edificio de la primera estación, Hlavní Nádraží. En el mismo año ocurrió un cambio substancial en la idea, ya que el gobierno decidió construir un verdadero sistema de metro, en vez de un tranvía subterráneo. Así, durante los primeros años, la construcción continuó mientras que el proyecto entero sufrió un cambio conceptual. “Female, noun. Slimy, liquid, kneadable. 9 brains, 8 tentacles, has 3 hearts and blue blood. Elegant, can shoot ink, to cook and to write. Transparent. Grey-brown. Very powerful. Brain on a platter.” That´s how Laure Prouvost describes the octopus.
A gigantic specimen washes up on the beach of De Panne. Her tentacles symbolise how Prouvost - who also washed up in multilingual Belgium - had to manoeuvre amongst the different cultures and forms of communication. She spreads her tentacles over the sand and cautiously explores the environment with her suckers. She points you the way with a telescope in hand. No less than sixty percent of the octopus´ intelligence resides in her tentacles. Her thoughts, palpations and movements fuse together. Synaesthesia, the ability to link one sensory impression to a different sensory impression, constitutes her greatest strength and survival strategy. This tactility also finds its way into Prouvost´s oeuvre. She often addresses the viewer directly with a brief maxim, thus immersing you in a special sensorial environment.
Moreover, with a humorous wink Prouvost compares the octopus with human ´ways of coping´: the octopus holds a plug and other working instruments firmly in her tentacles, which are grown over with mussels and breasts.

Haar tentakels symboliseren hoe Prouvost - eveneens aangespoeld in het meertalige België - zich tussen de verschillende culturen en vormen van communicatie moest manoeuvreren. Ze spreidt haar tentakels over het zand en tast ondertussen met haar zuignappen voorzichtig de omgeving af. Met een lampje in de hand wijst ze je de weg. Maar liefst zestig procent van de intelligentie van de octopus schuilt in haar tentakels. Haar gedachten, aanrakingen en bewegingen versmelten. Synesthesie, het vermogen om een zintuiglijke indruk te linken aan een andere zintuiglijke indruk, vormt haar grootste troef én overlevingsstrategie. Die tactiliteit vindt ook haar weg naar het oeuvre van Prouvost. Via een korte leuze spreekt ze de toeschouwer dikwijls rechtstreeks aan, en dompelt je zo onder in een bijzonder sensoriële omgeving.
Met een humoristische knipoog vergelijkt Prouvost bovendien de octopus met de menselijke ‘ways of coping’: de octopus houdt een stekker, telescoop en andere werkinstrumenten stevig vast in haar tentakels die begroeid zijn met mosselen en borsten.

Thanks to HMD Customs again, he also sent me the penguin arms so I could make this, he might be a dead meme, but it's October, and all dead are welcome in this month. I'm going to be honest here, I did like the concept of making him, but now he just look wierd in this form, he looks skinny and tall, perhaps if I used an Angry Birds body this would look less wierd, but I'm not sure which would look best for him and also I don't have any more Angry Birds bodies, I need to get some. I still like the paintjob though, and I still think the arms would work.

International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is a worldwide annual observance held on 21 February to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. First announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999, it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages.
The date corresponds to the day in 1952 when students from the University of Dhaka, Jagannath College and Dhaka Medical College, demonstrating for the recognition of Bengali (Bangla – বাংলা) as one of the two national languages of East Pakistan, were brutally shot dead by police (then under Pakistan government) near the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital of present-day Bangladesh.
There is no other instance in history that people laid down their lives for the right to establish his/her mother tongue!
Bangla is the language we speak; Desh means Land; the Land where Bangla is spoken is BANGLADESH!!

The rooster is based on a photo by Stacy Taylor in the "Free Reference Photos for Artists" Facebook group. She says it's a Barred Rock named "Macho". I started with the face and got the scale wrong so the tail and feet didn't fit! Then I needed to fill in the space on the left which started me researching rooster crowing in various languages ("cocorico" is French, "quiquiriqui" is Spanish, "kukeleku" is Dutch, and, of course, "Cock-a-doodle-do" is English).
