„Ich werde um mein Leben kämpfen. Bis mir die Kraft ausgeht. Deshalb bin ich hier.“
Das ist Muhammed aus Gambia. Ein Mann wie ein Berg, kräftige Schultern und Arme wie ein Baum. Ein humorvoller Kerl, mit dem ich sofort ins Gespräch kam.
Doch Muhammed ist schüchtern und es braucht eine Weile, bis er mir erzählt, wer er ist. Seine Familie ist immer noch in Gambia und er kam hierher, um für sein Leben zu kämpfen „until my power is finished“.
Dieser Satz kann viel bedeutet, auch seinen Tod. Doch ich bohre nicht weiter nach. Muhammed ist seit 11 Monaten in Deutschland.
Wir sprechen über seine Heimat, Banjul in Gambia. Ich frage ihn, ob er zuhause eine Freundin hatte.
„Nein“, sagt Muhammed. „Niemals.“ Er habe kein Geld gehabt und habe immer noch keines. Wenn man heirate und Kinder habe, dann würde das ohne Geld nicht funktionieren.
Mir wird klar, dass das Dasein als Flüchtling auch bedeutet, dass ein starker und hübscher Mann wie Muhammed keine Beziehung führen kann. Muhammed hat jedoch damit abgeschlossen.
Des weiteren erzählt er mir, dass er Muslim ist und 5 mal am Tag bete. Muhammed hat keinen Koran, aber einen Teppich, den ich auf seinem Spind entdecke. Er bete auf „koranisch“ und zitiert ein paar Zeilen aus seinem Gebet.
Ich mache Muhammed Komplimente. Doch er streitet alles ab. Und seine Muskeln wären „only water“ - doch dann muss ich einwenig lachen, necke ihn und er kichert mit. Muhammed ist ein toller Mensch.
Doch zum Fotografieren erlaubt mir Muhammed nur ein einiges Mal abzudrücken. Ich also meine Chance nutzen. Das Licht ist denkbar schlecht, doch wenn nicht jetzt, dann nie. So mache ich einen Schritt zur Seite und versuche mein Glück.
Jetzt habe ich Lust auf mehr, doch Muhammed bleibt hart. „One photo“. Und das hat sich gelohnt. Mal sehen, was er sagt, wenn ich ihm den Druck des Bildes vorbeibringe.
Auf diesen Moment freue ich mich, wie ein kleines Kind.
Muhammed, willkommen in Deutschland. Ich wünsche Dir, dass Dir Dein Leben irgendwann erlaubt, eine Frau zu finden und Kinder zu haben. Mögest Du immer die Freiheit haben, Deine Religion auszuüben.

GARZA PECHIBLANCO (MUHAMMED ALI) VS GARZA DE RIZOS ( ROCKY MARCIANO):
Bueno, no se si tengo excusas, simplemente lo olvide, Yosyta, Pedro y Decia. Asi que mas vale tarde que nunca.
Ustedes lo saben, olvidar fechas es algo característico en mi y del cimarronaje, pero eso no cambia jamas el aprecio, cariño y admiracion hacia quienes están ligado a mi no solo por la sangre, sino por una amistad de años y de grandes momentos compartidos en los montes de Dios.
Les regalo este momento captado por mi lente en el lago Enriquillo, en uno de los viajes en que mi dilecto amigo y maestro Carlos A. Objio me invito a conocer los recovecos de un lago encantado pero también místico.
Una garza Pechiblanco se adueño del lugar donde había mas alimento y sacaba a las demás aves a picotazos y a patadas para quedarse ella sola con el pastel. Una conducta territorial clasica en las aves.
A lo lejos una garza de rizos observaba el abuso y ella también quería y necesitaba comer. Asi que se empantalono y camino valientemente con una mirada desafiante hacia una contrincante de mayor tamaño y peso que ella.
Las escaramuzas de la Pechiblanco jamas la hicieron retroceder y avanzo como un gladiador hacia el terreno de su contrincante.
Erguida, valiente, sin quitarle jamas la vista al enemigo y mirando todo el tiempo de frente!! Jamas ataco ni derramo la primera sangre, pero estaba dispuesta a todo, tenia hambre!!!
Asi que se paro en dos patas, esta boxeadora de zapatillas amarillas.Su contrincante la amenazaba y ella nada de echar hacia atras.Finalmente la Pechiblanco la ataco y entonces la Garza de rizos respondio al ataque de una manera feroz.Salto por el aire y le dio dos patadas a la pechiblanco. Lamentablemente estas fotos del ataque quedaron cortadas por mi focal fija de 700 mm.
Volvia y caia en el mismo lugar con unos ojos desorbitados y mirando de frente a su oponente.Recibia un contrataque y ella volvia a saltar en el aire ripostando el ataque sin echar hacia atras ni para coger impulso.
Yo disfrutando como un loco esta contienda garcistica!!! Finalmente la Pechiblanco entendio que estaba frente a una garza decidida a vencer o morir, pero jamas a ser vencida o correr ante su oponente egoista que tenia la barriga llena y no dejaba comer a nadie.
Jamas en mi vida he visto un ave mas valiente y guapa que una Egretta thula, ahora mi gran boxeadora justiciera de zapatillas amarillas!
Un gran abrazo para los tres y muchas felicidades en esta tripleta de cumpleanos.
En lo adelante, he puesto los títulos a estas gladiadores como si fuesen dos seres humanos, para darle un toque de humor a la historia y ni yo mismo soporto la risa de mis ocurrencias.

The Courtyard of the Lions (Spanish: Patio de los Leones - Arabic: بهو السباع) is the main courtyard of the Nasrid dynasty Palace of the Lions, in the heart of the Alhambra, the Moorish citadel formed by a complex of palaces, gardens and forts in Granada, Spain. It was commissioned by the Nasrid sultan Muhammed V of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus. Its construction started in the second period of his reign, between 1362 and 1391 AD. The site is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage List[1] and minted in Spain's 2011 limited edition of 2 € Commemorative Coins....

Abu ʿAmir Muhammad ben Abi ʿAmir al-Maʿafirí (en árabe, أبو عامر محمد بن أبي عامر ابن عبد الله المعافري), llamado Al-Manṣūr billah (المنصور), el Victorioso por Allah o el victorioso por Alá, más conocido como Almanzor (c. 938 - Medinaceli (?), 11 de agosto de 1002), fue un militar y político andalusí, caudillo del Califato de Córdoba y valido de Hisham II.
En el 976, la prematura muerte de al-Hakam II situó al frente del califato de Córdoba a Hisam II, un niño de tan sólo once años, circunstancia que aprovechó Almanzor, hombre decidido y ambicioso, para hacerse con las riendas del poder. Aquel mismo año fue designado tutor del joven califa, con la ayuda de la madre de éste, Subh, una cautiva vascona que probablemente era su amante.
Dos años más tarde, en el 978, ya tras haber convertido a Hisam II en una marioneta política y postergado a personajes tan influyentes como al-Mushafí y Galib, Almanzor se hizo nombrar hayib, una especie de mayordomo de palacio o primer ministro, dignidad que le permitió ejercer una autoridad absoluta sobre todo el territorio hispanomusulmán.
Su primera decisión fue expulsar del ejército califal a la mayor parte de los mercenarios eslavos –los cuales, con el paso del tiempo, habían llegado a constituir una verdadera casta de privilegiados en la corte cordobesa– y sustituirlos por unos 20.000 beréberes, reclutados por él mismo en el norte de África, medida que le proporcionó una enorme popularidad. Así mismo, emprendió una profunda reestructuración de sus tropas con el propósito de acabar con la organización tribal de éstas, lo que era fuente de continuos conflictos, dispersando en diferentes unidades a los miembros más destacados de cada familia.
Dotado de una personalidad carismática y de un gran talento militar, entre los años 977 y 1002 llevó a cabo un total de 56 campañas en tierras cristianas sin conocer la derrota, razón por la cual recibió el sobrenombre de al-Mansur (el Victorioso), con el que pasaría a la historia. De hecho, se trataba de incursiones rápidas y devastadoras, realizadas durante los meses de primavera y verano, que tenían por objeto sembrar el terror entre los habitantes de los reinos cristianos del norte peninsular. Así, por ejemplo, asoló Salamanca (977), venció a los ejércitos coligados de Ramiro III de León, García Fernández de Castilla y Sancho II de Navarra en las batallas de Gormaz, Langa y Estercuel (977) y en la de Rueda (978), saqueó Barcelona (985), arrasó Coimbra, León y Zamora (987 y 988), asaltó Osma (990) y castigó Astorga (997).
La gesta más memorable del caudillo árabe se produjo, sin embargo, el 11 de agosto del 997, cuando destruyó Santiago de Compostela (sólo respetó el sepulcro del apóstol) y obligó a los cautivos cristianos a trasladar a hombros las campanas de la catedral y las puertas de la ciudad hasta Córdoba. Cinco años más tarde, de regreso de una expedición contra San Millán de la Cogolla, cayó enfermo y murió en Medinaceli, el 10 o el 11 de agosto de 1002.
A lo largo de su dilatado mandato, Almanzor tuvo la habilidad política de respetar el aparato califal y mantener intactas algunas de las prerrogativas de Hisam II, lo que no sólo le proporcionó un gran prestigio en vida, sino que también favoreció que, tras su muerte, el califa nombrara hayib a Abd al-Malik, su hijo predilecto, quien también se mostraría como un administrador eficiente y un inteligente jefe militar.

The "Muhammed Ali Center" has interesting tile pixels that make the photos disappear as you get near the building.
These photos were taken on an Ohio River excursion aboard the "Belle of Louisville". We left the downtown Louisville port, heading East To 12 mile Island, where we turned around and returned to port.

The citadel of Saladin - and indeed, the Cairo skyline - is dominated by the Alabaster Mosque, or Mosque of Mohammed Ali. Modelled along classic Turkish lines, it took 18 years to build (1830 - 1848) although later the domes had to be rebuilt. It was commissioned by Mohammad Ali, ruler of Egypt from 1805 - 1849, who lies in the marble tomb on the right as you enter.
This is Mohammed. I walked by a small alleyway and noticed the great light in it, so I decided to park myself there and look for someone.
Mohammed wandered by looking a little lost honestly, an easy target I thought! He did not seem to understand my request, so I pointed at my camera, then at him and he nodded OK. This was a quick encounter as he didn’t respond to my questions, and after a couple of frames, he said thank you and began to hurry off. I was relieved to finally get my next picture.
For the past two weeks, I have been struggling with the project. I go out with every intention of getting an image, but when it comes time to ask, I have backed away. It’s relatively easy to talk to a stranger, but to ask to take their picture is a completely different dynamic.
On one particular day, I finally got the nerve to ask someone, only to get rejected by four different people. I figured four strikes was enough for that day, and quit trying. It felt very frustrating to get over the hurdle of asking, only to hit another challenge when they did not agree to take part. It did feel like the whole project was a silly idea and doomed to fail.
Part of why I decided to do this project stems from a battle I have been fighting with severe anxiety. Essentially, any stressful situation that I face anymore renders me completely useless. So part of my plan with this project is to begin to re-introduce myself to stressful situations, but in a controlled manner. One where I am the driver of the demands, and one where the process (photography) is an enjoyable one for me. I am trying to make the project about the interactions, rather than the resulting image.
