I had been waiting for this further up the line but when it didn’t show on RTT I got in the car and went back home only to find it WAS running but an hour late. So with a quick walk back to the railway I was just in time to capture DRS 37605 with 90002 and a DVT in tow. The delayed 37 had worked up from Ilford EMUD at a busy time of day and in addition there were some service anomalies over the strike. In fact some RMT members had set up camp at Colchester station.
Jackee and I have bought two houses since we moved to San Jose in 1983. We closed on the first house on Willow Street in January 1985 and then sold that house and moved to our current residence in 2010. We came across the Realtor flyers for both houses last week while doing a cleanout of the guest room closet. (We were sort of double sheltering in place because the outside temperature was pushing 100 degrees and there was nothing else to do.)
Both flyers are pretty funny. The Willow Street flyer brags about a loan at 13.06%. We actually paid 14.875% interest because we made a limited down payment to keep some cash for remodeling.
And it says the house had 1 full bath and 2 half baths. A stretch because one of them was a toilet and shower in the unheated pool house. The gas barbecue was a tiny gas jet with no burner. I used it to light charcoal in a charcoal chimney. And the quiet Will Glen street was a race track a couple of times a day since there was an elementary school at the end of the street with a busy drop off/pick up area.
Still, it was good house for us with a backyard that kept siblings and their kids busy in the pool during visits. And it appreciated about double the rate of inflation which made it possible for us to buy this house.
My handwritten notes on the Caledonia house flyer are what are amusing (at least to me). “Kitchen very dates.” “Yikes!” “Would need major remodel.” All those things were true and turned into eight-month plus remodel. It was more expensive that we ever imagined. I took all our energy for those five months.
And it was worth every dollar and minute.

CAMP WILLIAMS, Utah, June 24, 2015 – Georgia Army National Guard Sgt. Samuel Shuler, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, races to the next station during the “ruck run” event of the national “Best Warrior” competition. The “range run” contained nine events, including an M9 pistol range, shoot and move, and machine gun station, spread out over a six-mile course.
