Outside the Gaddafi Mosque, Kampala. The mosque is situated at Kampala Hill in the Old Kampala area of Kampala, Uganda. The building of the mosque was supported financially by Mammar Gaddafi of Libya and was opened in 2007. It can take up to 6000 worshippers. The mosque was planned already during Idi Amin's rule, but was abandoned at his fall.

The Blue Mosque of Istanbul is an example of Ottoman architecture. There are distinctive domes and doorways on the mosque as well as bold features that assert the dominance of the empire.

Formerly St. Sophia Cathedral, built between 1209 and 1228 by the Lusignans (French). The kings of Cyprus were crowned here until the Venetian period (1400s).
The Ottomans converted it into Selimiye Mosque in 1570. It is now the chief mosque in North Cyprus.
We also visited this last year and took many more photos of the exterior.
Jamia Mosque is a mosque located on Banda Street in Nairobi's Central Business District. The mosque is one of Kenya's most prominent religious structures, and the most important mosque in the country. It was founded and first built by Syed Maulana Abdullah Shah between 1902 and 1906. The Mosque has been extended since its original construction.
The Jamia Mosque retains its classic Arabic Islamic architectural style with extensive use of marble and inscriptions from the Quran, and the traditional row of shops down one side provide rental income for its upkeep. It is recognizable by its three silver domes, and twin minarets.
This was probably my favourite part of the whole Egypt trip - such a neat melding of the old religion and the "new".
The model of the mosque is inspired from a Persian Islamic architecture of the Safavid period with several elements derived from other Islamic cultures such as Morocco.
