When I feared I'd lost all my Mono Lake shots, I got up and returned for a second sunrise, and I'm so glad I did! My favorite of the 3 sets!
Located in California's spectacular Eastern Sierra, Mono Lake is an oasis in the dry Great Basin and a vital habitat for millions of migratory and nesting birds.
The unusual rock formations that grace Mono Lake's shores are known to geologists as tufa. Tufa forms in a variety of ways at Mono Lake, but the most visible and remarkable formations are the towers that grace Mono's shoreline.

Tufa exposed when the lake level fell after the diversions started in 1941.
These will be partially resubmerged with the current plan to slowly raise the level of the lake over the next 20 years.

This is a Howler Monkey, a troop of which I came across whilst cycling from Puerto Viejo to Manzanillo. They are amazingly loud !

Must remember to pull subject off the wall to avoid shadowing. While a shadow works for some it doesn't for others.
