Before this makeover, the aircraft was painted with the scheme and markings of the 36th Tactical Fighter Wing, a unit at Bitburg Air Base, Germany, to which the aircraft was assigned in July 1977. Given this opportunity, IWM Duxford personnel decided they wanted to go with a different paint scheme from the aircraft's lineage. The aircraft now bears the markings of the "Spittin' Kittens", the nickname for the 5th Fighter Intercept Squadron to which the aircraft was assigned in December 1981.
The F-15 will now be on permanent display outside the American Air Museum - the only memorial museum outside of the United States. The museum stands in remembrance of the 30,000 U.S. Airmen who lost their lives flying from British shores during World II.

The top half of the Falkirk Wheel. If you stumbled across this at random, you'll probably be surprised to learn that this is a boat lift on an aqueduct.
It was a pain trying to get a shot of this which wasn't your typical touristy stuff, which is crazy given what a funky piece of civil engineering and design it is.

I wanted to get a blue dawn shot so we set up at dawn right before sunrise.
7 vertical shots, tripod mounted, stitched together with pshop photomerge. No HDR. A bit of unsharp mask and tone curve.

Drone surveys of California Gull breeding colonies; long-term dataset that began in 1983 in partnership with the Mono Lake Committee, Inyo National Forest, California State Parks; area was threatened by draw downs of water and coyotes accessing and decimating gull colonies
Location: Mono Lake, Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve, Mono County, California, United States of America.
Mono Lake is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The lake covers an area of approximately 60 mi2. The lake is at an elevation of 6384.5 ft. The lake has existed for at least a million years. The saline lake is supplied by streams from the Sierra Nevada. These streams also bring salt and other minerals to the lake. The salt and minerals remain after the lake water has evaporated. Mono Lake has a salinity 2.5 times the ocean because of the long-term accumulation of salt (CA 2-3).
Mono Lake is home to green algae, alkali flies (Artemia monica), and brine shrimp (Artemia monica). The flies and shrimp are a source of food for migratory birds. An example are the approximately 50,000 California gulls (Larus californicus) migrate to nest. Mono Lake is the largest nesting colony for these gulls in California (CA 3).
Mono Lake are the remnants of a larger fresh water lake named Lake Russell. Lake Russel existed in the Pleistocene epoch of the geological time scale. The islands of Negit and Paoha in the center of the lake formed due to a volcanic eruption approximately 300 years ago (USGS).
Viven algas verde, moscas akalino (Artemia monica), y camarónes (Artemia monica).
