Thought I'd post something chilling this warm summer day. May it provide momentary relief from the heat.
The Palouse is famous for it's vibrant green hues in spring and summer but is also charming in the winter.
A few other snowy Palouse shots in comments.
Enjoy a wonderful Friday and weekend!
Winter takes a momentary break and soon the singular scent of awakening pines will announce the change of the season.

Coming upon this lake, I was enchanted by the sunlight streaming through the Costa Rica Rainforest. Decided to take a momentary respite from my travel companion's chatter to enjoy a bit of solitude… the perfect ending to a wonderful day.

The sweetest face!! But so very shy. He was nibbling on grass but hyper vigilant. This incredible species is under threat in the UK due mainly to habitat loss.
And Mink. Apparently Mink like to munch on water vole!
I waited an obscene amount of time to see a glimpse of this incredible vole. This is the first time in many years that I was able to spot him. The secret is to stand still and not chat with anyone!!!
A little factlet for you all. 'Ratty' in the 'Wind in the willows' novel was a water vole.
this picture doesn't begin to do justice to Elvion's autumn build which I wrote about here on my blog.
the title of this picture comes from Juliana Spahr's amazing poem Transitory, Momentary which is available here from the Poetry Foundation.

Sometimes experience shows us how to live intensely corresponds to a momentary abandonment of our faculty to classify, control, judge, that is thinking.
Live life or write it, being part of it or think it: these are existentialistic alternatives to which artists and philosophers rely on every day.
But the secret is not think.

THE FIRST MORNING
It was not a morning like any other. It was the first. The horizon unfolded before us and the dawn within us. The story had yet to find its conclusion. And the movement inhabited me, as it inhabits all the living beings of our world and all the manifestations of the Universe…
__________
Everything is movement, evolution, transformation, destruction, and creation. A slow and linear movement or, sometimes, fast and unpredictable, of the order of rupture and creation. Everything is transient, ephemeral. On the human scale of time, we can only perceive the momentary consequences, the forms taken by the phenomena in transition during this very short period of time that human life lasts. In this shimmering world, certainties are only worth a moment.
If the enigma of life is hidden from us, we know that it is in it - in all its forms - that the marvelous resides, here in this living world, the Earth. Hence, our responsibility as humans is to co-inhabit our World with respect and consideration for all the other forms of life that have made us who we are. * After which, and only then, we will be prepared to reach the stars in search of other forms of life.
_____________
… The wind knows the secrets of passing time. He called out to me by my name, as he did for all forms of life marked by the same origin and inextricably linked to this living world: the time had come to undertake this vital Odyssey, here and now.

The two drug dealers who appear at the beginning of this video clip of Foo Fighters, trying to camouflage drugs on the plane, are Jack Black and Kyle Gass, two musicians who make up the rock group Tenacious D. This song will never be the best song of the rock history, even if the lyrics say so. Nor will they be remembered as one of the best rock bands. But something if they have both: they are two very funny guys. And his music videos and concerts, more. A good group. And "Tribute" a fun video clip.

A film to think and reflect on. A highly recommended film.
Y entonces fluye a través de mi como la lluvia. Y no siento otra cosa que gratitud por cada instante de mi estúpida e insignicante vida.

"Life fits in a 'click', in the blink of an eye, in any flake of oatmeal. It is about distinguishing what is worth from what is not"
...Squeeze every second of your life. Learn to fly, even if only as a simple plastic bag blown by the wind blowing in the streets. Otherwise, you will have flown through life... without having understood your own life.
PS: There is one thing I don't like about this photo... the use of pesticides. I prefer organic, ecological and sustainable crops. Pesticides kill insects. If the insects die, the birds have no food. And every day that passes, there are fewer birds... simply because there are no insects. The only species that is a plague on Earth... is humans.
PS: And as explained in ecology and ecosystems or the same words of the best ecologist, oceanographer and limnologist, Ramón Margalef... no plague can survive. Sooner or later... all the plagues, they finish and they are extinguished.

World Citizen - I Won't Be Disappointed (Long Version)
David Sylvian / Ryuichi Sakamoto - World Citizen (2003)
Happy summer.
this little sparrow decided to perch near where I was sitting and didn't seem to mind me sticking a lens into her face to capture this portrait.
The dark gloomy clouds broke up for about fifteen minutes this morning, just enough time to get a momentary look at this visiting female cardinal in good light. Freezing rain tonight turns to snow tomorrow - why in the world do I live in Iowa?
Too many people make the Spiritual mistake of considering "light" as truth and assume the being as the wholeness of all things, yet even basic esotericism will anoint this aspect of illusion that, light is a lie and the truth is the vibration as the to the level of one's own comprehension of perception.
"Lord of Light" is in fact Satan, the deceiver, illumination is not light, it is understanding, something the Gnostics wrote about before the Catholic Church ordered the Knights Templar to exterminate them, to keep this information covered up in favour of their own Biblical BS.
Once you gain this knowledge, the universe is of what one can perceive, beyond the five sense realm of physical reality, hence how we alone can decide reality for ourselves. Humanity is becoming slowly more spiritual, I alone along this canal where I took this photo have experienced Shadow People, Ghosts and a momentary time slip, which I theorise to being an experience of reality encoding via perception's ability assorting itself, for another words, what keeps us imprisoned is slowly and thankfully losing its grip, if only to allow yourself to see it!
So........... with that said I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! :)

And here I am again.
In front of my window, looking at others, looking at the world and how it continues on its way. I see people walking, children playing, and couples holding hands.
I slightly feel a tear fall down my cheek, how rebellious.
My heart leaps, remembering what I once thought I had. Those moments that I thought were real and lasting are now gone.
Now I am tired, worn and my heart fearful, still recovering from the battle.
Still I can see the sun, I know this is momentary, the time, patience and love that I am receiving makes me think that I do not deserve it but maybe I need it.
I look out my window at that hand that reaches out to me
Should I...?

If you could see this closely in the drop, you would see that the colors come from a Kleenex box with pretty tulip artwork on it, used in the background
there was nothing there. I just watched it evaporate. You look one moment and there's everything, next moment it's gone. Photography is very philosophical :-)

Now I know that you cannot get much closer to a picture perfect reflection than this, but there was one slight problem. I live in Minnesota which in the summertime could be renamed mosquito land. There were so many, of one of the arguably most annoying creatures on the planet, that I will admit it did make it a bit harder to enjoy the beauty before me. I still look back and can remember the momentary trial, but with it comes a beautiful memory.

Here's another from a very unseasonably wintry day on the Malvern Hills a couple of weeks ago. This group of three small trees on Table Hill really stood out in a momentary shaft of sunlight against a grey and threatening sky.

HIGH FIDELITY – KIDS FROM FAME
I met a man upon a bridge
with Heaven all around
I met him squarely on the ridge
he spoke to me without a sound
I asked him did he speak in Mandarin
his twinkling eyes looked all around
he pointed to the Eastern side
and there I saw upon the ground
beneath the weeping Willow trees
I was happy to have found
two Mandarin ducks so happily
walking on the grassy mound
I thanked him as I turned away
returned his smile and then he spoke
a richly warm and satisfying
baritone like plumes of smoke
smoothed and soothed and clung to me
preserved that feeling in my memory
he had two dogs who followed me
before he called them back; a mystery
for when I turned again to see
he and the dogs were gone
I was left bereft; a feeling so bewildering
a momentary skimming like a stone across the pond
a skipping of my heart
the beating pounding in my chest
echoing all around me
before the silence fell I must confess
I wondered if he was an angel
watching over me
communication needs no words
if we are one in harmony
and now the singing of the birds
broke through my reverie
the scene was filled and teemed with life
as I searched for the Mandarin ducks: verily
I could have stayed here for the longest time
made a home beneath the Willows
at one with nature I feel complete
soft downy ducks would be my pillows
two ravens flew high over head
other ducks and coots and moorhen
little rabbits all coexist
within this haven I call Heaven.

Another shot from the past. I haven't been out and about much for quite a long while. Already making plans for 2022.
As we enjoyed a walk around Whistler BC's Lost Lake (found it!) all was quiet and calm as a storm was building on the horizon, soon to blow away the calm.
Weather in the mountains is mercurial and frequently changing. Which is wonderful for photographers IMHO. I prefer a cloudy dramatic sky to an all blue or cloudy grey skies.
Enjoy a terrific Tuesday

Otis wanted to take Fleur on a surprise camping trip. He had a momentary lapse of memory and forgot he was in Canada, in the biggest snowstorm of the year. She was not pleased. Of course, they got stuck in their camper, and especially with pulling that little trailer behind. She climbed up as high as she could get, while Otis tried to get the satellite working. Not sure how this ended - I had to go back inside to get warm :)
Zoom in to look at the details. I noticed that Otis and Fleur kind of blend in with the background.
Anyone who has followed Acorn Woodpeckers knows they are anything but "quiet." One of their more charming qualities is their very raucous social life - think of middle schoolers living in trees...
This is a favorite perch for the Acorn Woodpeckers that live in the buckeye and eucalyptus glade on the hillside. It is the very highest branch at a certain level of the hillside and gives them a good lookout over their territory which they control with ferocity.
Thank you for your visits and inspiration!

I was watching the sunset sky, but the sun was soon behind a thick cloud over the horizon. I hung around hoping for some sunbeams from behind the cloud.
Then I noticed this drama being played out, to the north. Three quick shots at different exposures, and the light turned off.
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meaness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whomever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
