There came a point in his life when he felt called upon to rid himself of nearly all the art he had created up until then. Having destroyed his art, he set about to destroy himself. But something went wrong. For all the narcotics and the absinthe and the hashish, his vision only became clearer. A flare of art haloed his way out.
Of course, he died penniless. Tubercular meningitis. He was 35.

Lola de Valence
Oeuvre d'Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920)
1915
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New-York

Better known for his portraits, but this scene is also in Modigliani’s characteristically spare style. The painting dates from Amadeo Modigliani’s time spent on the Côte d’Azur in 1918/19.
I joined a challenge at one of my art communities. The challenge is to copy a painting by Modigliani.
Well, I had forgotten my copy of the painting, so I did this from memory at work, during my break. Make sense? lol...
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is one of the most important regional museums in the country, with collections ranging from archaeology to an extensive collection of fine art, including a superb sequence of Pre-Raphaelite paintings. There is also an impressive industrial gallery, which exhibits some of the highest quality crafts made in the city during the 19th century, most notably ceramics and stained glass.

Even Modigliani, with his eternal woman as object, actually belonged to the group above. Abstract anxiety.
