Yep, I modified these, too. I cast on 40 stitches, and increased to 58. I decided to mirror the garter columns on the body, and did almost all of my increases in the garter (I started with two stitches at the wrist and increased to 14 to match the body, and then increased just outside the garter area 3 more times).
This beetle has gone under the knife a few times. Spotted at Camden, a coastal resort and touristy town in Maine.
I bought one of these on ebay, took it apart, and put the nozzle through the plug. The nozzle could be pushed too far back into the bulb, so I added a stop. I used gaffers tape for this, but replaced the tape with a couple of layers of heat shrink later. I now have a much easier to transport bulb blower for my camera bag.
