This style is often referred to as Streamline Moderne, but it's really a subcategory of Art Deco--every New Yorker's favorite period, thanks to the breathtaking Chrysler Building. Art Moderne can be summarized in two words: sleek and nautical. Designers still felt that they could be artistic and use excess materials--a very pre-WWII mentality. These lights are on a portion of the park area between the Hudson River and Westside Highway, probably around 28th Street.
There are a few houses of this design scattered around the South Side, including this 1951 edition on Loomis. I'm a big fan of the corner windows, which hint at Deco/Moderne aesthetic, even if there are really no ornamental flourishes.
as a remainant from the glorious days of tanger´s jetset parties you still find some wonderfull old cinemas around the new town. the programm of these inema offers though mainly mainstream films

Moderne Umgestaltung: 1973 wurde die Friedrichstraße für den Autoverkehr gesperrt und zur Fußgängerzone weiterentwickelt. Zusätzlich kann man die 1974 fertig gestellte Stadtbrücke im hinteren Teil des Bildes erkennen.

This piece turned out SO well! It reminded me of the scapulars that ancient Egyptians used to wear - just not all the way around, as they wore theirs.
