Well, it's that time of year again for Aussie rev-heads. The Bathurst 1000 race is coming up this weekend at Mount Panorama in Bathurst, and I am getting in full couch potato mode ready for three days of V8 racing in front of the telly!
Although I don't normally follow the full motorsport season, I do have a special place for this particular race at Mount Panorama motor racing circuit, having been involved in the TV broadcast of the race many years ago. The broadcast itself actually won a TV Week Logie Award during one of my broadcast jobs there, and despite the presenter Bill Woods mentioning my position in the Logies acceptance speech, they strangely haven't sent me the Logie yet! ; )
This is my 1/18th scale die-cast model of the 2009 winner of this iconic race. This 2009 Holden VE Commodore was driven by Will Davison and Garth Tander, who won the Peter Brock King of the Mountain Trophy for 2009.
Taken with a backdrop of the Grampians Mountain range, taken from the Big Hill lookout in Stawell, Victoria. This shot was displayed on my computer screen with the model mounted just in front and lit with an LED desk lamp set on warm white to blend with the sunset colours.
Another miniature experiment in 1/48 scale with some vehicles of various scales including 1/43, 7mm Scale, and 1/50. The shopping cart is a custom etched kit. I intentionally left the background in bokeh for an effort to place focus on the subject, a 1957 Buick station wagon and its lady driver. These are all miniature models, no montaging or layering 1:1 with miniatures

Weird to think that my steel Danbury Mint model cars and trucks are all about 25 years old.
This was shot on the street outside my house.
These came just days after my Crown Vics were delivered (I ordered everything the same night)! I really miss collecting the 1:18 scale models, and eventually I will get back into the larger models, I’m still waiting on my 1:8 DeLorean to come so I can begin to build that which means I’m gonna have to make some arrangements in my office/studio/2nd bedroom. I’m up for the challenge. My collection will continue to grow regardless!
This is a 1:18 scale diecast model of the 1958 Plymouth Fury as depicted in the 1983 classic movie "Christine". Made by Greenlight. Click here for Front View.
In 1958, Sputnik 1 fell to earth after 3 months in orbit giving many Americans the initiative to build their own bomb shelters. Hall of Fame baseball player Roy Campanella ended his career after an automobile accident left him paralyzed. Ruth Carol Taylor became the first African American woman hired as a flight attendant, and the U.S. Army inducted Elvis Presley, transforming The King Of Rock & Roll into U.S. Private no. 53310761.

I have always wanted an E-type Jaguar - in British Racing Green of course - so I am pleased to finally be able to say I have one in the driveway! Here, my better half is waiting patiently so I can take her for a ride (to the carwash!)
For those who haven't twigged yet, this is just a 1/18th scale model made by Burago, and is one of a half dozen model cars in my small collection. Yesterday on flickr, I was inspired yet again by an amazing image in the Explore gallery using a technique called forced perspective, and it showed what I thought was a real car and caravan. Both were just 1/24th scale models very cleverly presented and photographed by two very talented guys.

My model car here is on a bench with a rubber lining which looks nicely like bitumen. This is just a foot or so in front of the camera, and my dear wife is sitting on a stool some ten feet beyond the car.
You will no doubt see ongoing shots of my car collection as I figure out different ways to present them. This is a heap of fun!

Samuel's son: Lemuel-Ben Gulphus Leaky, with no interest of the shipyard, but more so in mondène ski resorts and champagne parties. Still a BMW customer though.

Boredom galore ... and with it withdrawal symptoms. :o( We've had nothing but cloudy skies, rain, sleet and snow over here in the past few weeks, so there was absolutely no point in taking the camera out. I did a few times but always came back empty-handed. So a few days ago I decided to bring out my have-some-fun-in-winter-gear, i.e. a black acrylic reflection plate, 80l fish tank, flash guns etc.
Stacking has always been something I wanted to look into and so I also brought out one of my 1:87 scale Wiking model cars, got myself a copy of Helicon Focus software and set about practising stack photography. Must say that Helicon and Magic Lantern, which I use on my 500D, are very intuitive to use and work with. I know there's a lot of room for improvement (colours are some way off and I don't want to begin and think about the amount of planning, work and equipment needed for animate objects), but for a first try I'm quite happy. :o)
Okay, I didn't say that I could actually fit inside. My friend Dale and I make a trip to Woodward Avenue in suburban Detroit this afternoon for the Woodward Dream Week festivities. We visited Pasteiner's Auto Zone, a shop that specializes in auto literature and model cars. I couldn't pass up this beautiful (and rather large) 1:18 scale 1937 Lincoln Zephyr for only $75.

She couldn't get her T-bird to start, so she contacted the eternal bachelor in the building for help. A loose battery cable was the problem.
Back in the day, all state employees drove eastern european cars. This guy used his trusty Moskvitch well into the late 1980's.
