When Vollenda met a whole eggplant for the first time (that wasn't already cut up in a meal on her plate), she just thought the piece-of-fruit-mistaken-for-a-vegetable looked like it should have a face.

Kwanon voted on Election Day today, but Illinois does not allow pictures taken with the ballot. So, his "I voted" sticker next to the voter parking sign outside his polling place had to do!

Kwanon and Vollenda found shelter under the pavilion at the train station as the snow started to fall this evening. Out of the wet weather, they shot Photo of the Day from there. The debate was looking which direction would make a better image (guess who won☺).

Vollenda's image to capture the first snowfall of the season is taken from a different perspective than usual of a snow-covered, holiday-decorated street lamppost. Not everyone is lucky enough to see the streetlight scene from this vantage point.

Vollenda was greeted with interesting looking ominous clouds this morning when she went out her door. She couldn't help but photograph them, even though the sky was spitting on her sporadically.

Does a photographer take cover inside when a big storm is approaching? No, of course not! He grabs his camera and heads outside to photograph the storm as it rolls in. When the rain became too heavy to remain outside, Kwanon shot images through the window.

After working hard on a busy day, Kwanon really needed to unwind before going home. He needed something to take the edge off and melt away his daily stress, so the Camera convinced his co-workers to go out with him for happy hour.
"Single or double?" the server asked when Kwanon ordered.
"Better make it a triple," the Camera answered.
He sat down with the delight before him, so beautifully garnished it was almost too pretty to consume. Although he did take a few pictures first, Kwanon was not about to let aesthetics keep him from his much needed 5 o'clock treat. He grabbed the spoon and quickly dug into his three-scoop banana split with whipped cream, nuts, and cherries on top. ;-)

After being impressed with the wire cone basket with the attached ramekin, which is a triangular shape, Vollenda started noticing all the triangles in the restaurant tonight. Her triangular slice of pizza pointed right to the triangle-shaped basket, and the pizza pie slice server is triangular in shape itself. The photographer's brain went into must-find-shapes mode and started to automatically scan the room for triangles. The Camera immediately spotted a triangle shaped ad on the table, as well as several triangles within the patterns of the chairs.

Vollenda was mesmerized by the gorgeous orange-colored sunrise this morning greeting her upon opening the drapes. Since the sun waits for no Camera to rise, she got her gear and immediately began shooting multiple angles, taking care of Photo of the Day first thing today.

Kwanon being a history enthusiast signed up for a walking tour of La Grange today. Architectural and historical photographers love to know the history of buildings they are photographing. They cannot just take a snapshot, they need to know the when and why behind each structure in order to know the story each image should tell. The Camera is studying the map of the Historic District now for ideas of future photo shoot locations.

Vollenda and Kwanon took a walk before sunset to photograph La Grange's Christmas lights. Although the fountain was their intended target, this shot of city hall was their favorite, with Vollenda shooting up the railing towards a blur of Kwanon.

After the crew left tonight, Kwanon documented the construction progress in a local alley. He couldn't get near it earlier today with the workers moving equipment back and forth, so tonight he is closely examining the tar used to temporarily patch a hole they dug. The Camera put his head inches from the ground and concentrated on composing a good shot, hoping he wouldn't get run over if a car drove up from behind. But, that is the risk a good photographer takes.

Always looking for a different view to not take the same photograph as everyone else, Kwanon walked outside of the Ahhh! LaGrange Carnival l to see if the Ferris Wheel was visible from a nearby fountain. It was a failed mission but not a waste: Along the way, he noticed some flowers in view. Kwanon photographed the flowers with the Ferris Wheel behind, the evening sun creating a silhouette.

"You're going to fall down the slide â again," Kwanon cautioned as he watched Vollenda ease towards the edge. The playground was wet and slippery from the overnight rain.
"Don't you dare push me!" Vollenda shouted without even looking up from composing her shot.
"I wouldn't do that ... I would take a picture of you falling down the slide though!" Kwanon smirked.
Vollenda adjusts her lens and responds sarcastically, "Yeah, that would be a good Photo of the Day."

Walking through the town of Christmas lights with a holiday flavor of Starbucks coffee in their Christmas-designed cup makes Vollenda want to sing Christmas Carols – or take a picture of the holiday cup in front of a tree wrapped with a string of lights!

Vollenda knew if she rushed to set her tripod up, she would have two chances within minutes; two trains to shoot with a long exposure of 15 seconds. The Camera captured both shots. (Good thing, as Vollenda admits to only herself that she would not have waited at the train station for a half hour on this cold fall night for another train)

Kwanon was in the country the night of the biggest and brightest supermoon in 68 years. He was photographing leaves when Yoshi said he should be taking the moon. With a busted 50mm prime lens, this was the best the Camera could do.

Kwanon loves exploring old historical places. Tonight, he was photographing the basement of a 100-year-old building, trying to figure out what the layout was then, where the now obsolete household maintenance structures were located, and why brick was chiseled in certain spots at some point in time. The Camera got up on a pipe to get a better look at the century old brick and got one shot in before he lost his balance and fell, a hot water heater breaking his fall. Unhurt, Kwanon decided he was satisfied with the one photograph and not to chance trying to balance on the pipe again!

Vollenda is ecstatic one of her photographs was chosen to hang in a gallery exhibit. She printed the photo today, cut a custom-sized mat, and framed it. Exhibitors were requested to sign their artwork, so she felt like a Picasso putting her signature on her image. Vollenda loves how it sounds talking about the gallery, like she is some high fluent photographer. Selling your photographs in an actual gallery exhibit is a definite accomplishment for a photographer. Now, if someone actually buys the piece...oh my, success!

Kwanon read that 177 years ago today, John Herschel created the first photographic negative on a glass plate in 1839. The little Camera looked up Herschel in his book, "A History of Photography from Daguerreotype to Digital." Kwanon believes modern photographers should know the history of their craft.

Vollenda thought these empty film canisters made good monotonous content, especially since they are photography related themselves. They are all from black and white film processing, the film having been removed and developed in the darkroom.

Vollenda saw this scene this morning and had to come back to photograph it a few minutes later, because it's not something we see every year in Chicago, nor would the opportunity be present long. The recently decorated lamppost with Christmas tree garland and a red bow stood towering over the red fall flowers still perfectly blooming in their flowerpot. A juxtaposed shot combining the seasons yet both aspects of the image are colored red and green.
