royal palms shows an awesome view of catalina island, but you can't see it here! you can sort of see it in the picture if you hold it up to your face real close. oh well.

playing with a tiny keychain camera, very low resolution but pics aren't too bad-just tiny.

Even when having lunch with her best friend Isolette and her mother, Vollenda still took pictures out of the restaurant window. Mrs. Agfa didn't want to be in Photo of the Day, but Isolette was serious about being the model.

NOTE: This is the first Photo of the Day that officially features a person's face as the main subject. Previously, there has only been Photos of the Day that contained a picture of a person's face, not the actual person. To date, there have been two other photos with human hands visible.

NOTE 2: In researching a camera to be Vollenda's best friend, it had to be a camera manufactured in the same time period in order for the two to be around the same age, but a different brand than Kodak or Canon, since the friend isn't blood related to Vollenda or Kwanon. I decided upon an Agfa Isolette, as Vollenda & Isolette were both folding cameras with film types other than 35mm dated to the 1930s with German ties. As with Kodak and Canon, Agfa has a personal significance to me, as it was the brand of the scanner I did most of my beginning digital imaging work with.

Kwanon is keeping his eye sharp with a puzzle book. He especially loves the visual games. A photographer who prefers images over words? Picture that!

When removing a gelatin print someone put inside a Daguerreotype case, Vollenda noticed the patent, something she had never seen before since the Daguerreotype image should never be removed from its case. The Camera contemplated how she could incorporate her own art into a vintage photographic medium. Photographers are always looking for a way to set themselves apart from other photographers. They try to find a specialty specific to their work. Being a digital imagist, Vollenda loves the idea of integrating her photographs into a Daguerreotype.

pocket square! pocket square! pocket square!

Kwanon is going through items to sell at a garage sale in order to add money to his photography equipment fund. Photographers always need more gear and a way to earn extra money to buy it. He came across this LEGO® set and started building. The Camera likes putting things together. Maybe he should have been an architect. After all, he does love shooting architecture photos!

Doctor's offices all seem to run together.

Vollenda wanted to document the giant Christmas light bulb, but she was too heavy to balance on the hanging decoration. Kwanon was the right Camera for the job! As usual, Vollenda edited his photos later, experimenting with selective color to leave the bulb purple while making the background black and white. Then she really got creative and did selective inverting or selective negative, if you will. The Camera artist was going to leave the bulb positive to be purple, but after inverting it to see what it would look like, Vollenda admittedly liked the negative green bulb, so she made a tough artist decision and chose this as the final image to be thee Photo of the Day for today.

that's some sweet bugenvilla. i took this pic pretty close to the flowers, but again, my instax mini's focus came through.

Photo of the Day came to Kwanon today. As soon as he saw the fire engine, he set up to shoot. The firemen, however, were already returning to the truck. Kwanon knew he had one chance to get a picture before the truck drove off, so he had to make it a good one. And, he did!

Vollenda set up her new photo backdrop to see how it looked and decided to test it out by taking a picture of herself. Photographers have been taking selfies for years; it's called a self portrait. They set up the camera on a tripod, focus, and set the self-timer. If a photographer actually wants to be in a photo and have it composed nicely, exposed properly, and in focus, she knows she cannot trust a non-photographer but has to take it herself. The more self-timer pictures you take over the years, the better you get at running into the shot quickly and posing yourself after pressing the shutter button.

When both Cameras forget Photo of the Day inside the zoo because they are too busy photographing the lights of Holiday Magic, stomping through the high snow with the tripod switching locations, all the while trying to protect their gear from the wetness of the fast falling snow, there is no choice but to take Photo of the Day at the train station. With the incoming train in sight down the tracks, Kwanon hurried to prepare one of their cameras for the shot, while Vollenda cleared a spot of snow off of the lion, falling to the ground because the ear was still slippery. She got back up, Kwanon assisted, and they got several shots in before their train arrived, even having time to put all of the gear back in the camera bag. Now, that's teamwork!

Kwanon is an inquisitive patient. What does this device do? What is that equipment for? Why is this tool designed that way?

Being a sharp photographer, Kwanon had the "write" idea. He needed a pencil sharpener, so of course, he had to buy a novelty photography item he saw instead of a plain boring one. The pencil sharpener looks like a Twins-Lens Reflex camera. How flashy! Talk about #photographyobsessed

Vollenda checked out her trees for seasonal shots today after the first major snowfall of Chicago's winter season yesterday. Instead of shooting upward like in the spring and the fall, the Camera captured a different view when the opportunity arose with a passing freight train.

Vollenda utilized "Put On Your Own Shoes Day" to take a picture of these gold sparkly, ridiculously high heeled shoes she had out from a photo shoot. Kwanon laughed and told her Saint Nicholas wasn't going to be able to fit any gift for her inside those shoes!

While shopping at Trader Joe's today, Kwanon contemplated the marketing promotion for cage free eggs. He doesn't normally go around keeping his eggs in cages, nor know anybody who does. An egg in a cage could make a good Photo of the Day opportunity though, the Camera thought as visions of cracked caged eggs filled his head. Kwanon continued to ponder why there is not an ad for basket free eggs.

Vollenda and Kwanon hung out in Contessa's Dept. 56 Snow Village Christmas morning. Being photographers, the duo decided they liked it best on top the roof of the Starbuck's building because they liked the view of the miniature town from there, able to see the whole village.

NOTE: Here in this very village is where the first picture to be used for Photo of the Day was taken, almost a year ago on January, 1, 2016. Although an image from later in the day became that day's official photo, the original shot of Kwanon is used in his bio.

Vollenda enjoys the view from the parking garage of the magnificent Rialto Square Theater in downtown Joliet, taking a moment to let the night's events sink in. A night filled with photography, and she is still taking pictures. Tonight was the opening night of the gallery exhibition her photograph was accepted into, and she also won an award! For a photographer, acceptance into a gallery means your work is more to people than just compliments. It's deemed saleable. Acceptance into the exhibit alone is an accomplishment, but for your photo to be among the highest scoring in the exhibit is an amazing triumph for a photographer! Vollenda is now a gallery winning artist. The Camera loves how that sounds!

In lieu of the beach, Vollenda photographed her neon palm tree light for National Relaxation Day, steadying herself on her new pump of Bath & Body Works stress relief aromatherapy lotion. She would be too busy taking pictures to sit and relax at the real beach anyway! #NationalRelaxationDay
