Kwanon decided to try his lens at nature photography today. He went swimming by himself -- since Vollenda is still frightened by water after her accident last month -- and came up with the idea for a duck hunt once he arrived at the pool. Like a zoo animal, the ducks wouldn't cooperate and kept turning around to show their backside rather than their face. Like always, Kwanon kept shooting until he captured the mama and baby duck in their natural essence. ;-)

Vollenda shot carnival pictures tonight. She set her gear up and continuously fired burst shots at the Pharaoh's Fury ride, as the pirate ship swung back and forth. The Camera took pictures in that spot for ten minutes, waiting for three runs of the ride.
A photographer wants to make certain they capture an in focus image, composed artistically, with the ride in the perfect spot. She will stay at it whether it's ten minutes or an hour. Photographers should never go to the carnival with non-photographers!

Vollenda loves seeing her work displayed, and that's no exception when visiting her grandmother. She restored this wedding photo for her grandma over three years ago, which included drawing in grandpa's foot, removing people from the background, and using clues from other photos, as well as online research, to reconstruct the church in the background. After her grandma made a comment she didn't have any color wedding photos, Vollenda decided to colorize it also. The Camera cut a triple mat and framed the final photo, giving it to her grandma for a surprise birthday gift.

Vollenda wasn't healing, so she had to go to the hospital today. Even in need of serious repairs, the Camera refused to miss Photo of the Day. She stopped on the way out and asked her ride and mother, Contessa, if she minded her snapping it real quick. Vollenda found a pillar for support and photographed the hospital sign amongst the approaching dark blue storm clouds.
Vollenda is a fighter who refuses to quit, and that includes her photography. She is determined to complete 2016's Photo of the Day mission accurately.

Vollenda decided she would take Kwanon's lead from yesterday and investigated a fire truck and ambulance blocking off a street. A photographer always goes where the action is to look for a picture!

Kwanon is trying to celebrate all five senses in a visual image and thought his Arby's meal would suffice. Kwanon heard the wrapper speak a crinkling sound as he unwrapped his sandwich, the sweet smell of barbecue sauce soon filling the air. A yellowish orange cheese sauce painted his roast beef sandwich a colorful sight. He could feel the potato cakes were fresh off the grill, burning hot to the touch of his hand. The side of horseradish sauce added a hint of spicy taste to the food entering his mouth. #celebrateyoursensesday

Kwanon mistook this sign for a Disney World PhotoPass type area, thinking it'd be fun to wait for a family to come wanting their picture taken. However, it was clearly another photographer who approached, as Kwanon was asked, "What brand you use? Filtered, right? Can I borrow a light?"
The Camera responded, "I shoot Canon. Yes, I always have a UV filter on my lens. Sorry, I don't have an external flash with me now."
Thus, Kwanon learned today that smokers are a lot like photographers: Joined by a common bond, they are placed together with the same goal, becoming instafriends in conversation and always having something to talk about.

Sometimes, Photo of the Day unfolds in front of your eyes. A documentary photographer quickly grabs his gear and starts snapping shots, before even knowing what's happening. That's what Kwanon did when an ambulance, police car, and fire truck pulled up this afternoon. You never know what emergency is taking place, so a photographer wants to document it in case it becomes newsworthy. A tiny part of you always fantasizes about selling a photo of a life changing event in which you are the only person who got a shot of it as it was occurring.

Today is National Martini Day. How do you celebrate? Take out your martini glass and drink shaker, buy a jar of olives, and take pictures of the drink. Vollenda wanted Kwanon to shoot Photo of the Day with this subject, fearing she is getting a reputation for wine pictures. Kwanon refused, however, when he realized the only martini glass had red hearts and "I Love You" written all over it. Vollenda would like to note that no alcohol was actually consumed during this photo shoot!
Product shots are often not the food or drink they are representing, like the infamous motor oil for pancake syrup technique. Thus, a martini glass filled with water serves the purpose once you add the olives on a stir rod. It's all about the olives! #NationalMartiniDay

Vollenda arrived at her desired shooting location an hour early to set up and scout the area for potential shots. She checked the angle the fireworks would be seen from with a satellite map view on her phone so she had a good idea where she should shoot from, but the Camera was prepared to quickly relocate if her calculations were incorrect. If a photographer truly wants to capture a great shot, excessive preplanning like this is always required.
Vollenda's experience with fireworks proved accurate, as she chose the perfect spot to capture the town with the fireworks above. During the show, she quickly moved around the train station to take photographs with slightly different foreground views. The Camera continuously shot long exposure after long exposure, hoping to capture at least one perfect image. And, she did! ;-) Vollenda actually got several great photographs tonight.
