It's by no means the full story, and I broke some mindmap rules (but I would go off on a tangent in my head, and I figure that's getting out of the box. Right?)
Also note that I put "mindmapping" under procrastination. If I wasn't mindmapping at that moment, I could be writing.
Didn't use enough symbols.
Notes in my Moleskine journal that I made at a conference during a boring session. Ideas from this went into my first book "How to Enjoy Your Job"
Accounting 501 course at U of M. I'm SO excited to share this idea map and story with you. The posting on December 16, 2006 at ideamapping.ideamappingsuccess.com/ briefly mentioned Jennifer's map, but now you can see both the map and read the complete story in her own words (April 14, 2007). Two of Jennifer's pre-workshop maps are also viewable on my website (http://www.ideamappingsuccess.com/book.cfm) under "Client Maps" if you want to see the before and after comparison. It's quite amazing. Here's Jennifer:
"One of my first graduate business classes at UM was Financial Accounting. I struggled to grasp the intricacies of financial accounting throughout the semester. I did fairly well on the first exam, but failed the second exam. At that point I was extremely disheartened and actually considered dropping out of the MBA program! I put in so many hours of studying for the class, but I didn't see the results. I just didn't know how else to study more effectively and was at a loss for solutions.
Shortly after the second exam, I took Jamie Nast's Idea Mapping class at my workplace. I wasn't sure if I should apply this new skill to an old problem. Knowing how much time it would take me to completely review the entire book and create an Idea Map was daunting, but I decided to go for it.
The process of creating the Idea Map was an excellent review of the semester's material in and of itself. It allowed me to see connections between topics and 'how' and 'why' things were interrelated. I reviewed this map for several days before the final exam and used this map as my in-class note sheet for the final exam.
I'm extremely happy to report that I passed the class with a B+; a huge improvement from my grade at midterm! I found Idea Maps to be an excellent way for me to effectively study for my exam and to truly grasp the interconnectedness of the material."

The mindmap shows the obligations a controller has to fulfil under the General Data Protection Regulation. These are
- finding a legal basis for processing personal data
- obeying the data protection principles
- fulfilling data subject's rights
- doing risk assessments
- implement technical and organisational measures
- fulfilling information and communication obligations
- demonstrating compliance (and therefore documenting everything)
and much more...
If you count each of these obligations, you might count 68 obligations.

I just finished this for our faculty art exhibition coming up later this month. All the type is hand rendered to express the many thoughts that enter my mind. I've printed it 36" x 36" for the faculty show.
This Mind Map is a summary of the book "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle.
Present moment awareness; living in the now, is very simple to understand. To experience this moment with greater aliveness, try an easy experiment. Pick up or look at an object (perhaps even look at your hand) and view it without any thought whatsoever - no labelling, judging, analysing; no restless need for something more exciting - simply look, feel, sense, touch. You will probably detect a quietness inside you, a stillness, an alert presence - just pure being without expectation. The mind may try to investigate the moment - see if you can observe the object and at the same time effortlessly allow space around any thought that arises - that is to say, don't feel compelled to follow your thought instead of paying alert attention to the object in front of you.
If this makes you feel more peaceful, restful, relaxed, brings a sense of inner calm; if this resonates with you at all, I recommend reading "The Power of Now"

Food Pyramid. Daniel is a senior at the University of South Florida, and did his summer at a large automotive company in southeastern Michigan. One of his first assignments his manager gave him was to read the Idea Mapping book. I met Daniel in June and he was already becoming a huge fan and user of MindManager.
One of Daniel's learnings was how to live on his, so he created the food pyramid map because when he first got to Michigan he had no idea what he needed to eat everyday. For the full story see the August 30, 2007 posting at ideamapping.ideamappingsuccess.com/.
Oops, accidentally erased this one today. This is the digital version of the biscuit tin thingy done with the mindmapping facility of the Inspiration softwear (trial)

I am not exactly sure where I got this from, one of those random internet email forwards that reached my inbox. I like the contents of it and converted the text to a mind map.
