The emotional attachment and sense of belonging to homeland recreated by

the immigrants in their new settlement — Mauritius.

Mothri- the baggage of memories- is an installation based on the collective memories which have contributed in the making of our rainbow island.

It is not only a physical movement when people migrate to a known or unknown land but most importantly it is a display of the socio-cultural baggage which they carry with them in their memories. The baggage consists of their social identity, their religious beliefs, rites and rituals, food, dressing style, and

language. With these memories, they create a home away from their original homeland.
