a portrait of this tiny brown violetear hummingbird who let me get very close to him/her with a macro lens
I took a flower that came from a florist's spray. After the stem was in water, tiny, white blossoms emerged. They lasted about a day, but I was able to get a few macros. This is one that I processed a little.
Possibly a nuisance in any orchard but it was a point and click in our tiny fruitless garden,
Thanks to a flickr friend I have an ID.
If you are a fan of my work, I would really appreciate it if you would "like" my page on facebook at: Josh Sommers Art. Thank you!
Get in mah belleh.
To get started into the LEGO season 2019, I decided to build a small one at first. Primarily to continue practicing photography and image editing. Happy new year everybody!

This micro lumber harvester is based loosely on a Caterpillar 538.
It was built to fulfill the requirements for "RRT Extraction unit - Lumber" in the ongoing DA4 game. The bulldozer is present to fullfill one of the requirements for the diorama - it is a piece of firefighting equipment (dozers are used to build fire lines to fight wildland fires).
To fill the remaining requirment, I include the following song:
Brewtopian Lumberjack Song:
We wake up in the morning
and have a mug of beer.
We eat a pound of bacon
and pack up all our gear.
We head out to the forest,
where we work a long, hard day.
Chopping, cutting, hauling -
That's how we earn our pay.
But when the sun goes down,
we head back to the base,
where a giant keg is waiting
so we can get sh*tfaced.
Oh, beer, beer, beer,
it gets us through our day.
Beer, beer, beer,
There is no other way.
30 photos stack for these tiny fungi (about 1-2mm tall). Shot using the Canon MP-E 65mm 1-5x macro lens and stacked in ZereneStacker.
In the spirit of the 'best camera is the one you have with you' and seen an inspiring YouTube on iPhone photography I sallied forth into the bush and photographed these tiny fungi, lichen, mosses and liverworts. Miminal processing in LR Classic
Minnesota is known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes". In reality, there are 11,842 lakes of 10 acres or more. There are so many lakes in fact, that there are over 200 'Mud Lakes', 150 'Long Lakes' and 120 'Rice Lakes'....MN is the main producer of wild rice in the US.
The "lake" in the foreground of this photo measured about 3 feet wide and a few inches deep, so it obviously doesn't classify as a lake. It does sit on the rocky shore of an actual lake that stretches out to an island in the distance, which made for an interesting photo.
There is already a 'Tiny Lake' in Northeastern Minnesota, so instead I will name this vast body of water, 'Micro Lake'

Macro Monday "Sparkle" take 2.
The one thing about macro photography is you learn how much dust you have in your house. I spent ages trying to clean these with a microfibre clothe and cotton buds. I couldn't get behind the garnets, so there is still obvious dust though. Still, I thought these garnet earrings were quite pretty and sparkly!

So at this point most people at my day job know Steph and I are "Lego People". Anyways, for various occasions such as birthdays or last days (by that I don't mean deaths) we like to build little desk magnets or vigs representative of the individual. This one is for a friend who switched jobs to go work for NASA. :)
Some inspiration :)

I thought I'd try something different tonight and go for a micro nature scene. I really like the result.
I wanted to make a micro version of the Forgotten Temple as well as make instructions for it. The instructions are free on my rebrickable page (link in bio) So if you want to make this or the Micro Hunters Dream for yourself you can. If you are just curious to see how they go together you are more than welcome to take a look.
I do want to make instructions more often for my builds but they do take a lot longer to finish and test. I also like to use odd pieces in my builds that aren’t available digitally which limits a lot of options for making builds, so unfortunately I won’t make instructions for every build I post.
I’m wanting to make micro versions of every show build I make because I have to take them apart pretty quickly afterwards and the shows are pretty much the only time I get to see them fully assembled. I do like to keep little souvenirs from the show builds but a tiny version is a nice little display piece to act as a reminder of what I have made. Who knows maybe after 50 years I can just display the micro builds instead…
