"...though this island is full of voices, I've never seen
who sings, or grasped in what language the lyrics are.
I have followed the voices through forests of lethal green,
but the sweeter the note, the note is more far - more far."
- Robert Penn Warren.

This is known as the Deadman's Hill Overlook.
I had the wonderful opportunity to see fall in Michigan this year. There were more oranges and reds than I expected. It was really nice.
I was shocked to see a boat coming in the other day on the way to recyclables. So I sat there and waited and sure enough it was the Emerald Isle from the island. The boat has been stuck over there because Lake Michigan has been so rough since its last trip. They had an opening where the waters were not so rough and they came back and they are anchored in our harbor for the winter now. They need some engine work done and it is more accessible for them to work on the engines here then fly people over to the island.
This one is well off the beaten path at the southernmost point on the Keweenaw. It was a bed & breakfast, but Google lists it as permanently closed. There were several workers there fixing the place up.
He gave me a few shots this morning before the heat of the day.

Thank you for looking at my photos. It is very much appreciated.
beautiful April snow showers this morning, a little out of the norm for this late in the month, but not really. love all the variability in our Michigan seasons.

What a beautiful architectural I have seen.
It's Three Oaks Mansion in Michigan; built in 1877. I originally thought it was an abandoned, but read somewhere stated someone still live in that house. That's all info I got.

GLC OSTN (Owosso, MI - Howell, MI Turn)

GLC 386 SD35
GLC 383 SD35
GLC 382 SD40-2
While making a rare weekend daylight run back from Howell OSTN comes back north with a nice 5-unit lash up seen nowhere else. The cool thing with these GP35 is they’re riding on old Alco trucks from the days they were built for the Ann Arbor.
Remember the Michigan Northern (MIGN)? The pike operated out of Cadillac, Michigan, with a rag-tag collection of diesels. I spent an interesting day with them on May 27, 1978. The object of the visit was to film their two ex-Delaware & Hudson, exx-NYC Baldwin "Sharks." Shark 1205 and sister 1216 will go out later in the day, but right now, they are seeing some light maintenance. Alco RS-2 1501 is on the left.
The sharks still exist, locked up undercover on another Michigan shortline. Hopefully, they might run again someday.
The MIGN closed in June 1987, and all remaining MIGN lines at that time are now operated by the Great Lakes Central.

Lake Michigan has a surface area of 22,404 sq.mi (58,026 km2); (13,237 square miles, 34,284 km2 lying in Michigan state, 7,358 square miles, 19,056 km2 in Wisconsin, 234 square miles, 606 km2 in Indiana, & 1,576 square miles, 4,079 km2 in Illinois) making it the largest lake entirely within one country by surface area (Lake Baikal, in Russia, is larger by water volume), and the fifth-largest lake in the world. It is the larger half of Lake Michigan–Huron, which is the largest body of fresh water in the world. It is 307 miles (494 km) long by 118 miles (190 km) wide with a shoreline 1,640 miles (2,640 km) long.
The lake's average depth is 46 fathoms 3 feet (279 ft; 85 m), while its greatest depth is 153 fathoms 5 feet (923 ft; 281 m). It contains a volume of 1,180 cubic miles (4,918 km³) of water. Green Bay in the northwest is its largest bay. Grand Traverse Bay in its northeast is another large bay. Its deepest region, which lies in its northern-half, is called Chippewa Basin (named after prehistoric Lake Chippewa) and is separated from South Chippewa Basin, by a relatively shallower area called the Mid Lake Plateau.
