Chicago is known for its incredible restaurants. When I was England last year I was talking to a chef in Harrogate. When he found out that I lived near Chicago he asked if I had ever eaten at Alinea. I sheepishly admitted that I had never even heard of it. As it turns out the Harrogate chef knew what he was talking about. Alinea is one of only two restaurants in Chicago to receive the highest rating of three stars from the Michelin Guide. After a six month wait to get in there Tracey and I finally got to see what all the fuss was about. Everything was extremely creative and surprisingly tasty. For example, the "balloon" Tracey is admiring was actually our dessert, including the licorice string and helium filling. It was a meal that won't be forgotten soon.

Had a lunch at L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Roppongi Tokyo. Many thanks to the chef Kenichiro Sekiya for his kind welcoming.
Black Twig Apple glazed and smoked quail from Brent Wolfe Farm, served with a. dried apple, grilled lucy glow apples and grilled radicchio. Finished with a pomegranate manchamnetal jus.
