A few weeks ago, I embarked on a journey of trying to successfully catalog, tag and apply location metadata to all my images. A daunting task, considering that I had over 10000 RAW images that I planned to go through. During this task, I also wanted to weed out some bad-quality images as well as rate and categorize the RAW files.
Over the past month, I poured through hundreds of images, and now, I stand at 60% completed. (Surprisingly, all of that was just photos taken in California!). While it may seem like a rather boring task, I actually found it enjoyable. It enabled me to discover hitherto hidden images that I had forgotten about completely. By rating images, I hope to now find such gems more easily.
This is one such image. While backpacking in the summer at Yosemite's Young Lakes. Apart from hiking in lush green gorgeous meadows, bristing pine forests and high alpine lakes surrounded by granite peaks, the thing that comes foremost to mind are the mosquitoes, and one of the best sunrises I had seen. The mosquitoes were bad, the hike through a raging cascade, even more worse. But thankfully, that momentous sunrise lighting up the layers of clouds behind Mt Conness, reflecting its vibrant colors on the lake below, has been forever etched into memory.
The shot above, is a slice of one such memory. I really had a fantastic time in there. And I shall definitely heed the call of the high Sierras once again.

Great Cow Harbour is the previous designated name of Northport Village in the Town of Huntington of Suffolk County in the Long Island Region of New York State USA
Northport is known for its Victorian era village center, still bearing trolley rails from a long since discontinued streetcar line which would transport village residents to the Long Island Rail Road station in East Northport. The village Main Street runs from the Village Green along the harbor-front to the former hamlet of Vernon Valley, which has since been subsumed by the neighboring community of East Northport.
Northport is a historic maritime village on the north shore of Long Island, New York. Initially designated Great Cow Harbour by 17th-century English colonists, the area was officially renamed Northport in 1837.
Mariah Carey pop singer was born in Huntington, New York. Mariah Carey began writing poetry and lyrics while attending Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York where she graduated in 1987

I only have to drive a short distance to be up in the sandhills of Nebraska. It's much prettier in the summer and fall. You can see the snow we got Sunday is nearly gone already. It's suppose to warm up into the 50's this week but it's terribly windy today. At least the sun is shining and the skies are blue.
The quote is from an unknown source. The full quote reads, "Knowing when it is over is the beginning of a new life and the end of the old one." This could apply to broken relationships, I suppose. But aren't there many times in one's life that we tend to hang on to the old - the familiar - when we should be moving onward and upward to the new challenges that await us.

Data is important to me. Some humans commented that I have a lot of tags. If you have no data, sure, you don’t need tags. But if you have 10,000+ media items on Flickr like I do, you tag, you organize, you make sure that everything you do is searchable so that when someone asked you for a photo, you are able to find it under 10 seconds. I can do that. Can you?

1. I use Adobe Lightroom, because it has tight integration with the EXIF metadata storage scheme implemented by Flickr.
2. When I enter information in the title / description area of Lightroom, it automatically populates the relevant fields on Flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/seeminglee/8429087032/
3. When I assign keywords inside Lightroom, they get populated as Flickr tags. Lightroom has an awesome feature which allows you to create synonyms for tags, and is what I currently do for Chinese tags. I am bilingual, Flickr is not. So assigning synonyms inside Lightroom, I tag once but then Flickr shows both Chinese and English on the page. www.flickr.com/photos/seeminglee/8429087032/
4. The JPEG format stores metadata information in the form of EXIF. Add /meta to the Flickr URL and you see it instantly. JPEG EXIF on Flickr is text only, making it very indexable by search engines. All that info you spend time organizing in Lightroom is reflected automatically. www.flickr.com/photos/seeminglee/8429087032/meta
Some people said that they have no idea where I find the time to popular these fields. I don’t. Everything is automatic. Things just get smartly embedded everywhere. With a few scripts anything is possible.
