I'm a data geek (no, sh!+, really?) and I *love* going through the metadata section of Lightroom.

I can't wait until ALL my photos are geo-tagged when I take 'em. Being able to do a mash-up and pull pictures from location would KICK ASS.

The description below is adapted from one the Library of Congress created for a similar photo. I am including elements from their metadata, such as the photographers name, that I cannot verify by examining my photo:

[Linn, Royan M., photographer.]

Col. P.S. Post, J.J. Van Osdel, C.C. Doolittle, Dr. Charles Bunce, and two unidentified men of the 59th Illinois Infantry at Point Lookout, Tennessee, with sabers in hand and slouch hats. Philip Sidney Post is at the left, holding the white binoculars.

Notes:

Photo shows officers who posed for the Linns, who left Ohio to photograph the Army of the Cumberland. In late 1863, after the battles of Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge, the pair set up a studio near Point Lookout. Here they photographed the western Union armies as they concentrated for an advance on Atlanta. (Source: Matthew R. Gross and Elizabeth T. Lewin, 2010)

SCSL hosted a Metadata Tea and invited SCSL retirees to help identify people in photos. A great time was had by all and many subject headings created :-)

A classic amplifier with multiple forms of metadata presentation. Signal strength of the FM radio signal is indicated by a VU meter. The station is locked in as a stereo signal so the "stereo" light is lit. The lamp on the tuning pointer indicates the station frequency. It also has physical knob indications of current amplifier settings.

no I am not lying. Okay they now have those little printed slips but still.... Look at all that metadata.

What if objects can show their metadata.

And why is metadata only useful for buying them?
