I picked up the Ne-Yo album, "Year of the Gentleman" today on iTunes. Been listening to the song "Mad" all day. Love it. The lyrics remind me of a lot of things in my own life... things I wish I had realized when I was younger. But if there is a time to be a better person, it's better now than never.
If you have someone you're upset with do yourself a favour today and call them and extend a hand. We get so caught up in every day life we forget how short life is and in the end all this negativity is just wasting your life away. Don't go to bed mad.
I'm quite amazed at the nice crisp detail the X100s has over the X100 once you get up to F3.6 and higher range. No bypass filter means sharper shots.
Taking a few days off from work, so I'm leaving the snowy mountains behind. I'll be back soon to take more pics for Flickr.
From TMBO, where I titled this "1000th Paper Crane," and was asked "[have you] actually made 1000?", I opted to write this little response. I've edited it a little since.
[The crane is] not mine.
Many years ago, before I had a major falling out with them, for a birthday one of my friends was given 1000 paper cranes by a mutual friend, each tiny crane folded over a period of 2 months. I think she spent an hour a day or so folding these small cranes preparing for this gift.
It's a powerful gesture. Even if the recipient of 1000 cranes doesn't know the story behind the gift, or what it represents.
So, when trying to figure out a title for this photo, that story popped in to my head.
I should teach myself how to fold the cranes. My buddy Taketora was a minor origami crane master until his untimely death. He'd fold them small enough to fit on a fingertip, out of spare bits of paper torn from the wrappers of the cheap chopsticks a local sushi-boat joint gave out. Occasionally, he'd have some small waxed paper with him, and send the cranes floating down the water way or subtly set them on the boats.
I don't think I could fold a crane to save my life. I can barely keep my hands stable enough to take a picture.

We came across this old photo of Belgian laborers amongst other sober photos in a municipal museum. I was surprised to find the man joking around on the left...people had a sense of humor then, even though times were hard and they had to wear wooden shoes?
My first portraits as a new business were of mother and son who are close friends of the family and willing guinea pigs. No poses were planned, all I asked them to do was sit and mess around.

Somebody thought my previous version of this photo reminded them of Magritte's 'False mirror', so I stole some clouds from another photo of mine and made an official homage :)

I really should have shaved, but I was bored, and felt like playing with lights

Taking pictures I will miss
Must think of something bold!
There must be one thing here to snap
However uninspiring
This vase with leaves is what I'll tap
A long exposure firing.
It's not so great, not so fine
No prize winner I fear
Observe this work of curve and line,
At least it's warm in here!

The only photo I have of New Years Eve, 2006. My camera died right after taking this photo at Mary Ann's party.
