July 14 was a wonderful day because we became grandparents. The twins (Raf and Ida) are premature but are doing very well. And we are waiting, just like the frog prince till we can hold them in our arms.

The card can be used as an invitation card to a party as well.

Hopefully not all lazy!

So this has been a very strange 24 hours. Valentines kinda kicked off yesterday because we had a Girls Scouts Father Daughter Dance. All Fun! Except my daughter decided she was too old to dance with me. Then someone messed with the sound system and we lost music for 30 minutes. But the girls were having so much fun no one noticed. When we finally fixed it there was a cheer and the party was back on. And cleanup was fast and easy. But while doing cleanup I talked with a mentor about some professional stuff and it was really depressing because a former mutual boss had really screwed him. And then my wife got a text message from one of our closest friends saying her husband - my best man at our wedding and one of my 2 best friends - had just declared he wanted a divorce. I am godfather to their children and they to ours. They have been married almost 19 years. He retired last year because the Army basically used him up - deployed 4 out of 6 1/2 years and they still wanted more. He retired because he thought it was going to solve things and it only made it worse. I am not very happy with the Army right now. Then today my beloved Widlcats blew a 16 point lead AT HOME and lost to the EVIL Jayhawks. I needed some seagull therapy and so I grabbed boy and off we went. We had a blast but the light never quite got there so most of the pictures are just a tiny bit blurry and for the first time a seagull pooped on me. Fitting. Ended the night with a nice dinner. And all of that is nothing compared to what another good friend is going through. And other than just listening, there is nothing I can do to help. But two of my flickr friends put up some great pictures today and that was nice. And one had a good day yesterday and I got to share a bit of that happiness. And then I got an email that reminded me how messed up my own life is. But I finished my midterms and I think I got 4 As and a B. And the B was due to lack of effort, not from being stupid. I can fix effort. So I guess I am glad this 24 hours span is over.

Re enactor at Victory Show 2015

This is a message you get when you delete a game on my phone. There are at least two things really wrong it -- (1) how many people beyond the programmers who wrote this message know what "JAR files" are? (2) Ever hear of word wrapping?

To celebrate Flag Day on June 13, for the 8th straight year the U.S. Embassy's Public Diplomacy Section organized a competition with high school students to develop depictions of all 50 U.S. States and the District of Columbia. Nearly 300 enthusiastic high school students took part in the competition which took place at the Ambassador’s residence where they exhibited the displays they created to illustrate various representative elements of each of the states, in order to convey the message for this year’s theme: “America’s Strength: The Diversity of Its People”. First time participating, this year's high schools were: Gheorghe Lazar (Bucharest), Mihai Viteazul (Bucharest), Nicolae Balcescu (Oltenita), Decebal (Bucharest) and Ion Neculce (Bucharest). The winners received American books, music and movies (Lucian Crusoveanu / Public Diplomacy Office)

A Valentine's Series postcard that was posted in Bristol on Thursday the 25th. December 1902. Back then, they even had a collection on Christmas Day!

It was posted to:

Monsieur Théodore Thibault,

Rue Félix Faure,

Caudebec les Elbeuf,

Seine Inférieure,

France.

The recipient's name and address stretched across the undivided back of the card, with the message being written on the front.

So what else happened on the day that Nora Bryant posted the card?

Well, on the 25th. December 1902, Haggits Pillar was discovered.

It is a stack 203 feet (62 m) high in the South Pacific Ocean at the northwestern edge of the Ross Sea. It lies 250 metres (270 yds) west of Scott Island, and some 500 kilometres (310 miles) northeast of Cape Adare, Victoria Land, Antarctica.

It measures 50 metres (55 yds) in diameter, yielding an area of less than 0.2 hectares (0.5 acres).

It was discovered by Captain William Colbeck, Royal Navy Reserve, commander of the SY Morning, relief ship to the British National Antarctic Expedition, (1901–1904), under Robert Falcon Scott.

I just couldn't help myself....

Boy, my phone's video resolution is ass-tastic, isn't it?

The nice Dutch chap I was working with has tattoos - I only saw them after a few days of working with him when he removed his overalls.

I have to admit that I'm not a fan of tattoos even though they appear to have gone mainstream.

However, I was taken aback at these. Theses convey powerful messages with background to them that I discovered when I talked to him about them.

It's interesting meeting people and discovering things about them.

He has served with the Royal Netherlands Army in Afghanistan.
