This is a close up shot of her waist. After I made her tail with as swirly mix of blues, I put her in the freezer for about 30 min. Then I coated her tail with a translucent clay mixed with blue and green glitters. I took small chunks and ran it through the smallest setting on my pasta machine. I then smooshed the clay over her tail so it was a supper thin coat. To kind of make the transition from maid to mer smoother I brought the glitter layer up onto her flesh. I am very happy with the way this turned out.
The Little Mermaid (Den lille havfrue) is a fairy tale written in 1836 by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.
The story is about a young mermaid who is willing to give up everything to gain an immortal soul and the love of a Prince and often came up to the edge of the water to look for her love.
The sculpture pictures her as she sits and looks out over the water, after never actually having married the prince, and reminiscing over her lost childhood in the sea, as a mermaid.

A ticket includes time in the Red Sea Aquarium with a guaranteed mermaid sighting, visits with land mermaids at the Ray Touch Pool and Norfolk Canyon Aquarium, mermaid story time, puppet show, musical performance and time to make a mermaid sun catcher to take home.
Mermaid Mondays run in April 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 6-9 p.m. Members of the Aquarium can purchase a ticket for $20 and nonmembers can buy one for $30.

Tote bag made for my niece's 5th birthday. The straps are adjustable so hopefully it will grow with her. She loves mermaids, so the fancy cut determined the rest of the fabrics. Finished size aprox. 9.5" x 7.5" with a boxed bottom for more carry room. Most of the fabrics are from my stash from the Scrappy Trip Along 2.5" 17" strip swaps.

Founded in 1983 by Coney Island USA, the Mermaid Parade celebrates the sand, sea, salt air and the beginning of summer. Participants dress in hand-made costumes as mermaids, Neptunes, various sea creatures, and the occasional wandering lighthouse. Each year, a celebrity King Neptune and Queen Mermaid rule over the proceedings, riding in the parade and assisting in the opening of the Ocean for the summer swimming season. Attending celebrities in the past have included David Byrne, Queen Latifah, Ron Kuby, Curtis Sliwa, Moby and Theo. The Parade is followed by the Mermaid Parade Ball
