Mermaids Ondine, Lorelei and Melusine of the performers Merlesque.
Such a hardship spending a Saturday afternoon with three burlesque mermaids :-) Just a quick out-take from the 470 images I need to trim down and work on...

It's been long that I am experimenting with a girl cp that I designed long ago for a ballerina. And from that cp, with alterations, I came up with lots and lots of different female models.
But, I wanted to create a mermaid too. Influenced by Eric Vigier's mermaid, I asked him if I can use part of his model and incorporate it to mine. He gave me the OK, so I did use the part that connects the fish-tail to the body. And it worked nicely I guess.
Folded from a rectangle of Kozo paper treated with methyl cellulose.

There is in your eyes, love,
a deep blue sea in which you dive
the unfathomable worlds of desire,
my forgotten treasure.
I would like to be a mermaid of your seas,
banish my sorrows
and feel that I fall in love again,
in my sonorous beat.
There is in your eyes, love,
the serene and clear light of the albor.

I was trying to make some scales on my mermaid, but it's not easy... :) The Mi-Teintes paper didn't help too.

ThE canals on Mars made us hope or believe another civilization was waiting for us. The face on Mars was, well, not. And following the canals like a roadway are...the mermaids of Mars.

I couldn't decide if the little one was the cutest or the saddest thing I saw that day... perhaps both!

I was suddenly caught off guard when I saw this Mermaid. I took a quick shot of her and seconds later she was gone.
Mermaid Lagoon is truly one of the other great marvels of Tokyo Disney Sea. The fact that the whole thing is under ground is just amazing. Even more amazing is the amount of detail both inside and out.
I have somewhat mixed feelings about this place. I was really looking forward to seeing it and spending some time in there doing long exposure photos of the rides, which I did.
The only reason I have mixed feelings about Mermaid Lagoon is because it was pouring rain that day and it turned out to be the spot everyone chose to get out of the rain, making it packed with people wearing poncho, including us. Since it was coming down in buckets outside, I figured this was my chance to really take my time and explore it photographically. (is that a word?) Mind you, right before we sought refuge from the downpour in Mermaid Lagoon, my camera got wet and the main dial stopped working. Everything else worked on it and the only thing I couldn't do was to shoot bracketed exposures. Well, after about 15 minutes of enjoying myself taking pictures without being drenched, I heard Ka-Klunk, Ka-KLUNK! Then came the dreaded "Error 20" message on the back of my camera and that was the end of it. No more 5D for the rest of the trip. Not that my back up camera the 7D is any slouch but it isn't full frame, which you really, really want to have in Tokyo Disney Sea.
Other than that, Mermaid Lagoon is awesome!

As it is now the last day of May, I'm saying goodbye to this year´s "Mermay" with this little sleeping mermaid..
I guess she could be a representation of the challenge taking a rest until next year!
(Those of you who know me though; know my love for mermaids, so I'll definitely still create more mermaid art throughout the year, don't worry! ;))
