Merlot, the color of rich wine. I couldn't resist the silk cord and made a spiral of beads and crystals that coordinate beautifully. This actually the second necklace like this that I have made. My sister-in-law saw the first one, and fell in love with it, so it now graces her neck.
Yes, it's the winner of the Most Boring Bottle of Wine Photograph Award for 2010. No one else need submit an entry....
Anyway, since my last red was apparently the Unholy Union of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, I figured I'd try out the eviler of the twins to see what it was like.
Honestly, not too bad. A little less of a smack in the mouth than the last one, perhaps because I took some advice and popped the cork a bit before we actually drank it. I got through the bottle and it managed not to offend me, so that counts as a win.
It seems that the Cape Town Tugs have been renamed with our famous Wine Routes in mind. Here is the former Lourens Muller now known as Merlot

Each new vintage is released on Marilyn Monroe's birthday, June 1st, and sells out quickly. Collectors have made Marilyn Merlot one of the fastest-appreciating wines on the market, as twelve-bottle sets of the 1985 through 1996 vintages continue to grow in value and are now selling for $8,000.
While the concept and engaging artwork of these wines has given them a degree of fame, it is the wine in the bottle that merits the favor of those who seek it every year. All vintages carry the Napa Valley appellation (except for the 1987 vintage, which was imported from France). The wines are made at the Cult Wine Central in Oakville, California. Some of Napa Valley's finest vineyards contribute to the blend, which is typically about 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
This 21st release ends the series, which I hope you found of interest as well as informative relative to a true American icon and one of the most famous woman in the world.

This striking portrait emerged from Marilyn's first sitting with Milton Greene at the 20th Century-Fox portrait studio in Hollywood, California in September 1953 for the Christmas edition of "Look" magazine. But this image was never published at the time, being considered much too "risque" for the 1950's.

The Merlot is looking beautiful. A gorgeous deep red and clear as a bell. Another 3 days I think before it's scheduled to be bottled and I see no reason to delay further than that.
Taste? Not bad at all. A nice rich dry red. Far better than the U-brew reds I've drunk before... I wouldn't need to be drunk before I had a glass of this. This tastes like actual wine. Another success.
Nothing says sophistication quite like a plastic glass of Merlot. To this end Minivino have got the market cornered. After reading the supermarket description of such a marvellous creation I decided it needed something a bit more fitting.
If this was an 80’s film this would now be the montage section where I purloin the label, scan it, find fonts, use my computer and finally print out the finished product. We’d then segue back to me walking up the street about to complete my mission with the supermarket insertion of my replacement label. Cue credits.
Cheers

Good morning. After missing a day here yesterday I thought I would post a few more labels from the Marilyn (Monroe) Merlot wine series with the last three of what I term as the early releases because of the design on the foil cap. Starting here with the1988 release, which used a photo from the Kobal Collection that was of Marilyn in the Frank Trevilla designed gold lame` gown that is featured prominently on the 1986 label/bottle and can be seen in the below link:

The so-called "Black Sitting" photographed in New York before they left for California to make the movie "Bus Stop" is considered by many to be the ultimate Monroe - Greene achievement. Of which the above label used one of the many photos from the session and the original B&W version can be seen here:

For all its sexy fishnet stockings and provocative attitude the "Black Sitting" retains the sensuous innocence of a little girl playing dress-up. This subtle dualism, the essence of the Monroe image, explains much of her enduring appeal.
