Over six months with no mainline charters ended in England today, with a new repeat itinerary offered by West Coast Railways - "The Pendle Dalesman", running in the format of The original Fellsman from Lancaster to Carlisle and return. No.35018 'British India Line' did the honours on a wonderful late Spring afternoon captured on the reverse curves approaching Langwathby.

Despite the moderately cool temperatures for the time of year, there was little visible exhaust on display. A shame, but I'm not complaining. It was just nice to see mainline steam back in action.

My first trip out for mainline steam in almost 8 months - and unless I am mistaken the first steam hauled trip in the south east for almost as long no thanks to covid.

In my mind the image of the train leaving the shadows behind and running into the sunlight is almost a metaphor to the last few months of seemingly endless lockdown, now hopefully coming to an end with more positive times to come.
