Yellow-fronted Barbet (Megalaima flavifrons) is an Asian barbet which is an endemic resident breeder in Sri Lanka. Barbets and toucansare a group of near passerine birds with a worldwide tropical distribution. The barbets get their name from the bristles which fringe their heavy bills.

Yellow-fronted Barbet is an arboreal species of forests and other woodland, including large gardens, which eats mainly small fruit and only rarely insects. It nests in a tree hole, laying 2-3 eggs.

This is a medium-sized barbet at 21 cm. It is a plump bird, with a short neck, large head and short tail. The adult Yellow-fronted Barbet has a mainly green body and wing plumage, with a scaly appearance to the breast. It has a blue face and throat, and a yellow crown and moustachial stripes.

The Lineated Barbet Megalaima lineata is a large barbet found in the northern parts of the Indian Subcontinent, along the southern foothills of the Himalayas and also in parts of Bangladesh and West Bengal. Like other barbets it is a frugivore. In nests inside holes bored into tree trunks..

Thanks to Sir Steve Pryor for the heads-up on the Scientific Name. It seems Cebu has it's own race of Barbets.

五色鳥(學名:Megalaima oorti)因其羽毛有五種顏色而得名。該鳥在中國大陸稱為「黑眉擬啄木鳥」。

身常約20~23公分,喙基上黑色嘴鬚發達,身體多為翠綠色,頭部大部份為藍色,額頭和喉部有黃色分佈,眼先和前頸有小部份紅色,眼部至耳羽上方則為黑色,粗厚嘴部為黑色,腳鉛灰色。叫聲單調而大聲,類似敲木魚「郭、郭郭郭郭……」[1],因而又被稱作「花和尚」。在繁殖時會啄樹洞築巢。

The White-cheeked Barbet or Small Green Barbet (Megalaima viridis) is a species of barbet found in southern India and is endemic to the forest areas of the Western Ghats and adjoining hills. They are mainly frugivorous.

 

These barbets are arboreal and will rarely visit the ground. They obtain most of the water they need from their fruit diet. When water is available in a tree hole, they will sometimes drink and bathe
