The golden-whiskered barbet (Megalaima chrysopogon), a near passerine bird from Southeast Asia, is a species of Asian Barbet. Like those species referred to by the common name "toucan", the golden-whiskered barbet is in the Ramphastidae family.
Golden-whiskered barbets are frugivores that gorge themselves on berries, figs, and any edible fruits they can find.

It is about 20 cm (7.9 in) long. The plumage is mostly green. The lore has a red spot. The ear-coverts and lower malar are blue. The throat is mustard yellow. The forehead is yellow. There is a black stripe above the eye. The beak is black and thick. The breast has a blue band and a red band. The belly is yellowish-green. The feet are greyish. The sexes are alike.

The Chinese name for the bird means "five-colored bird" (simplified Chinese: 五色鸟; traditional Chinese: 五色鳥; pinyin: wuseniao), referring to the five colors on its plumage. Because of its colorful plumage and that its call resembles that of a percussion instrument known as a wooden fish, the species is also referred to as the "spotted monk of the forest" in Taiwan.
Habitat and ecology
It is commonly found in forests at elevations of up to 2,800 m (9,200 ft). It feeds on fruits and insects. The breeding season is from March to August. It nests in tree cavities. It may use an existing cavity or excavate one.

The Black-browed Barbet or Müller's Barbet (Megalaima oorti) is a bird belonging to the Asian barbet family, Megalaimidae.
It is 20-23.5 cm long. The plumage is mostly green apart from the head which is patterned with blue, yellow and red. There is a black stripe above the eye. The bill is black and the feet are grey-green. The Chinese name for the bird, "five-colored bird" (五色鳥) refers to the five colors seen on its plumage. Because of its colorful plumage and that its call resembles that of a percussion instrument known as a wooden fish, the species is also referred to as the "spotted monk of the forest" in Taiwan.
There is a scarcity of fruits here due to the start of the monsoons and so the birds are always on the lookout for whatever fruits remain on the trees. The fruits themselves do not seem to be growing to full size. Ripening even when quite small. So the guava tree is attracting all the local birds giving me a chance to get some good shots.

parent transferring berries to the chick.
From observations, berries formed the major part of the chick's diet Though had seen parent brought back insects, probably for occasional protein supplement when they were younger.
