Well the lack of colour at Blyth this morning can mean only one thing.....a mono ! The movement in the sky was great though. I did process a couple of colour shots but prefer the mono. And nice to meet Alan Howe there too.

No post-processing done to photo, only cropped. Nikon NEF (RAW) files available. NPP Straight Photography at noPhotoShopping.com

i called someone a name today.

ostensibly, it was a harmless thing. i was chatting with a colleague about another colleague. i didn't think twice about it, using a nickname i'd heard others using. but my friend, whose character and opinion i greatly respect, came out of his office and over to my cube to remind me that this person, no matter how insufferable, has a name.

he said this so quietly i didn't even hear him at first. he had to repeat it twice before i got it -- and when i did, my face filled with bright pink shame.

see, i should have known better.

in the summer of 1982, i was sent to sleepaway camp. it was my third summer there; during summers one and two, everyone picked on amy green. i myself didn't, but i didn't go out of my way to befriend her, either. well, in summer number three, amy never showed... and the entire camp turned on me. you cannot imagine how cruel kids can be until you're on the receiving end. they called me names to my face. they threw doritos onto my bunk at night. they gave me the silent treatment. they threw wet washcloths against the bathroom wall, the water seeping through to my rainbow sheets, which, by summer's end, were streaked with rust. knots of girls would gather along the paths, singing the motels' version of "only the lonely" as i loped past, head down, heart closed.

i saw those girls in myself today. i felt the hot, black-tea taste of a mean streak at the back of my throat, and i did not like it.

wait.

that is not entirely honest.

and that? that is why i'm sorry.

SL friendships mean so much to me. Without them, I would not be in as SL as often, because when I do activities and explore SL with my friends it is so much more enjoyable. I also highly enjoy doing activities in RL with my SL friends, such as watching movies or tv shows (pictured in this photo) while we are on a voice call. Friendships also mean we support and cheer each other on. I love all my friends and times with them are what I will always cherish from SL.

Le petit port de Méan et un avion-cargo de chez Airbus en phase d'atterrissage.

Autumn is a very deceptive season. It starts off in a benign way. Leaves begin to turn color, but still cling to the branches. The mood is kind of pumpkiny, soft, an autumn harvest sort of feel. But all of this is so fleeting. The descent phase kicks into high gear at the end of October and runs rampant through the end of November. Leaves begin to lose color and quickly thin and fall. Temperatures become much harsher. The killing frost descends. Soon snow and ice return amid a sea of bare tree limbs. Very quickly the last of the color leaches out of the environment. It's like a mean old man who gets meaner every time you see him. The rapid downward spiral is truly remarkable. No other month seems to bring about such a rapid transformation to our local climate. This period is so fleeting I try not to miss a single opportunity to experience it. One of my annual rites of autumn for the past several years has been a return to this crumbling old building. It first caught my eye one autumn day when the summer foliage had died back enough to reveal it. Although scarcely six feet from the side of the road, it is completely cloaked all summer long. Even though I know right where to look I still cannot see it. By late October, it remerges into view, a bit worse for the wear. Each year I think this will be the last photo, yet it still manages to remain upright. I try to time my arrival with the 'kinder-gentler' phase of autumn. My visit this year revealed a shocking state of decay. The old garage is clearly in the autumn of its lifespan. The juxtaposition of collapse framed against the autumnal hues provided the perfect visual metaphor.

I bought a used '81 Corvette in 1986 which made me a "Chevy" man, but I could easily become a "Ford" man if I had the keys to this sexy "Stang!

People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road doesn't mean they've gotten lost.
