This fool thought I was taking pictures of him last night while I was snapping Ima and Jam dancing. So he smashed my camera. If you see him, smash his face. Fortunately I captured him in the background of this shot, was able to zoom in and turn it over to the police.

smells better bigger

Francine (in case you didn't know) was the protagonist of the movie Polyester... the first (and, as far as I know, only) movie made in what director John Waters called Smell-o-vision. Francine was ruled by her nose and (just like me) went around sniffing things compulsively. And... each time her nose went nuts, a Smell-o-vision number flashed on the screen, and we in the audience were directed to scratch and sniff our scratch and sniff strips.

I mention this because... if ever a picture on Flickr deserved to come with Smell-o-vision... this is it. Imagine the blend of spicy-sweet nicotiana, dark secret green tree-breath and warm briny beach.

As an aside, shooting these flowers and palms in the park the other night made me realize that (duh) I could just as easily (much more easily, in fact) shoot my own freakin' garden at night. So I'll be setting out to do that later this week. (That buzz you hear is the neighbourhood mosquitoes cheering.)

When they say Blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) are dropping foals, they really mean it. After the rains come the grass, and the wildebeest follow. Southern Serengeti in late January and February is where all the dropping action is. Although if you were with us, you'd never know it. We came to the same area (around Ndutu Lake at the same time two years running - 1 week difference if you must quibble).

In February 2015, it was still brown and dusty, even though it was already into near mid-February. No foals being dropped. Nada. Zilch.

In February 2016, we were a week earlier. It was like a different planet compared to the year before. Green and lush. Still - the foals were still few and far between (but we did see this one being born; mummy kept walking. Never stopped until baby was on the ground).

Ironically, we saw more light brown foals 2 weeks later in the Selous (where there are tiny herds) than when we were in the Serengeti.

Wildlife. Unpredictable. We love it :-)

"Who are you?"

I stand up and direct my attention to the man standing in front of me. His helmet reminds me of that of Mercury. He takes off his helmet and cocks his head to the side in a puzzled manner.

"You gonna answer me?"

"Hello, my name is Max Mercury, I am a messenger of fleet seventy-six. I seem to have been knocked out in combat. Can you please direct me back to the Blackfoot outpost?"

The man says nothing. He just begins to walk closer to me. The man puts his helmet down and places his hands at his hips.

"Is this some kind of a joke?"

"I do not understand?"

"The Blackfoot clan was wiped away more than a hundred years ago. Why would you be looking for them now?"

I drop to my knees in sorrow. I failed to protect them. Why must this happen to them. They only wanted to live their life in piece... Wait...

"What do you mean 'a hundred years ago'?"

"They settled here. In what would become Central City about a hundred-and-fifty years ago. They were slaughtered by a band of men. At least that's what the history books say."

"Then where... when am I?"

"Nineteen-eighty-three... So wait, you are being serious?"

"Yes, yes I swear. I... The shaman he must have done something to me. I know he gave me superhuman speed but he must have also sent me into the future, but why?"

"Look, Max, was it? I don't know why you're here or even how you got here, but I will help you find a place to stay and anything else you may want me to do."

"Thank you... I'm sorry, I didn't get your name."

"Jay, Jay Garrick. Most people call me the Flash though."

"Thank you, Flash. Really."

I was hoping for a bit of a sunset at this spot but with the weather in the Rhondda doing its usual I guess I'll have to try another day. But from 29th April 2023 to late January/early February 2024, TFW will be closing the line from Pontypridd to Treherbert to re-engineer the line as part of the South Wales Metro. Here, soon to be replaced, 150257 hurries towards Trehafod with 2F66 16:46 Treherbert to Cardiff Central.

Privat or Private? both would mean personal but since there is no road or gate, not sure what this tire sign is pointing too, just goes in circles.

Birdie tried on a hat and we couldn't find a mirror so I snapped this to show her what it looked like. Ended up a fun pic of her "mean look"

I just love green in HDR and this beautifully restored classic just proves my point. Oh yes, it was a killer sky that day. VIEW LARGE

He was lost. That truth was unavoidable, but to be lost doesn't mean one can't find their own way out.

I'm trying to be more active on flickr guyz but it is so hard to balance so many different outlets. I took this over the weekend and edited it with some advice from Stephen Maycock who is so patient and awesome. Anyway I hope you can find a story here and create something brilliant of your own!

Let me know what you think, it helps me out so much!

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to view, comment and fave my photo !
