Also known as Japanese cherry blossom, seeing the sakura blossom tree covered in delicate pink blossoms put me in mind of the song "The Flowers That Bloom in the Spring, Tra La" from my favourite Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta, "The Mikado".

The theme for "Smile on Saturday" on the 6th of April is "blossoms", so whilst being in the Southern Hemisphere, I am slowly wending my way towards autumn, I do love spring, so I have lots of blossom shots that have yet to make their way up onto Flickr. The theme gives me the perfect excuse to select one and post it! My two favourite seasons are autumn, for its brightly coloured cascades of leaves, and spring for its pastel coloured blooms which are always a delight after the grey winter months. I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!

I couldn't tell you exactly why but this one is going in a very small pile of my images that I think are pretty good. Doesn't mean you have to feel the same way but I love it. This little shed is a fantastic location and I've shot it under many different conditions from 'holy crap' sunsets to incredible smoke skies due to massive bushfires and this foggy sunrise. It looks very rural but it's actually very close to housing estates, I can only hope it doesn't disappear in the name of progress..
A cold front on the night of July 11, 2020, brought a much-needed break to the dry conditions and high temps that have plagued Northern Illinois in the first part of July. As is typical for these summer weather patterns, it bought with it a severe-warned thunderstorm. It was a very prolific lightning producer, and was accompanied by an impressive shelf cloud. But as the sun set, the storm slowed, and by the time it go to me, it wasn't producing the same amounts of lightning as it was just 15 minutes previous. Even so, I managed to capture a few bolts, and this is one of them. We still got a half inch of rain out of the system too.

My EuroBroTour vacation in Paris and Germany is over. Back to “real life”.

Experiments to create a long exposure effect. 20 shots with the intervalomenter 10 seconds apart, mean stacked in Photoshop. To get a smoother effect I think I need longer exposures with less gap between them, or a really large amount of exposures with little gap between them. Mean seems to work better than median.
