A Christmas present......a funny show a la Tina Fey. The audience loved it and made it even more fun. Muy gracioso!

And always good to be in the city. New York, that is......

#4/52, Your choice, 2019 Seasons, My Diary

Naast meteo en onweer ben ik ook stapelgek van snelle en exclusieve wagens. Zoals deze knalgroene Mercedes AMG GTR tijdens de Zoute GP in Brugge vorig jaar.

To me, the poignance of this scene is magnified a hundredfold because only one of the stones was overturned, leaving the other to soldier on alone, having escaped the fate of its companion, at least for now.

This little one, and I really mean little one, came totally by surprise to get some food for the night. She is no more than maybe 6 cm, but made my day like she was the biggest star on Earth :)

This was a big beast of a caterpillar of the Emperor Moth on Loch Clunie, Scotland.

Their dress is worn and faded, but these two have more than earned their keep for Burlington Northern and successor BNSF. Shown here working "reroute" cars at Rices Point in Duluth. BNSF shifted cars destined for Grand Forks and Noyes to the Twin Ports during a cold weather stretch and are just now cleaning things out.

Reaching back into the files for a collection of iPhone shots I've taken over the last few years. Processed with Snapseed in camera.

Well the lack of colour at Blyth this morning can mean only one thing.....a mono ! The movement in the sky was great though. I did process a couple of colour shots but prefer the mono. And nice to meet Alan Howe there too.

Dear Visitors.

I am very pleasantly surprised by this distinction ;)

I mean such a large number of visitors and commenters people.

I thank you all for your kind words. I'm beginning to believe that continuous improvement will bring someday true success. Currently, about 3% of the visitors liked the picture, maybe one day I take a picture that will be liked by 50% of visitors ?? :D

Photo taken at the June Porsche of Beachwood Cars and Coffee.

Definitely the best looking part of this car is the front clip. I say it runs toe to toe with any American muscle cars of that time. Though the engine is minuscule by comparison.

Mean while back on the farm. Getting the hay ready for Winter.

i called someone a name today.

ostensibly, it was a harmless thing. i was chatting with a colleague about another colleague. i didn't think twice about it, using a nickname i'd heard others using. but my friend, whose character and opinion i greatly respect, came out of his office and over to my cube to remind me that this person, no matter how insufferable, has a name.

he said this so quietly i didn't even hear him at first. he had to repeat it twice before i got it -- and when i did, my face filled with bright pink shame.

see, i should have known better.

in the summer of 1982, i was sent to sleepaway camp. it was my third summer there; during summers one and two, everyone picked on amy green. i myself didn't, but i didn't go out of my way to befriend her, either. well, in summer number three, amy never showed... and the entire camp turned on me. you cannot imagine how cruel kids can be until you're on the receiving end. they called me names to my face. they threw doritos onto my bunk at night. they gave me the silent treatment. they threw wet washcloths against the bathroom wall, the water seeping through to my rainbow sheets, which, by summer's end, were streaked with rust. knots of girls would gather along the paths, singing the motels' version of "only the lonely" as i loped past, head down, heart closed.

i saw those girls in myself today. i felt the hot, black-tea taste of a mean streak at the back of my throat, and i did not like it.

wait.

that is not entirely honest.

and that? that is why i'm sorry.

"A murderer would never parade his crime in front of an open window..."

R is for Rear Window: the classic film directed by one of my favorites, Alfred Hitchcock. A thrilling taste of voyeurism, telephoto lenses, and romance between an invalid photographer and a piece of the Upper East Side's upper crust.

I thought of this shot about ten days ago, and have looked forward to it ever since. I really wanted to have a shot that was clearly inspired by one of my favorite directors and/or films, and I had great success doing it with Lost In Translation. But what sealed the deal with Rear Window was the fact that my stepfather had foot surgery and is in a cast/boot thing for six weeks. Pretty fortuitous ... plus, Jordy already did Psycho (props to him for making it funny and getting away with it), I am not even close to being able to have a scene from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, or No Country For Old Men and, well, those covered my favorite films by my favorite directors. I mean, okay. Yeah, I could have done the last two with a lot of time and effort, but it's not my fault the letter 'R' fell on a Monday I had work and two doctors' appointments!

I don't liken myself to Grace Kelly at all, and not just because she's blonde and infinitely more beautiful and royalty, (though those don't help) but because she is much more ladylike and, well, graceful. So ideally, this shot would be without me and in my place, a blonde and/or evidently graceful woman. However, I don't have either of those at my disposal; I was going to use my mother, since it felt a little weird (in theory) to be the Grace Kelly to my stepfather's Jimmy Stewart, but I got over it -- all for art's sake! :)

p.s. It's grainy for the old film feel -- but maybe it would be better without. Any thoughts??

p.p.s. two stills from the original movie: one and two
