John was a member of the infamous Donner party though he chose to stick with the established route to California when others decided to try a shortcut that turned out to be disastrous.

©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: With Denver waking up in the distance, the sunrise from the Mt. Goliath area was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. This whole "getting up in the middle of the night" thing for sunrise shots....might just be worth it. ;-)

©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: We got another snow today and we didn't even ask for it! It zoomed through the state at about 60 mph. Tonight the sky is clear and the stars are shining. As opposed to the last post, this photo isn't tweaked - it's our yew shrubs with red lights & snow. ;-) Is everyone ready for Christmas? Because ready or not, it's rushing this way. ;-)

©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: Just like Henri Rousseau's The Sleeping Gypsy it seems like it's time for me to take a little rest....from flickr. Happy Shooting and Happy Flickering and I'll see you when the gypsy wakes up. ;-)

Back Shot from May 2017
On a walk around the Botanic Gardens May 10, 2017 Christchurch, South Island New Zealand.
Master metal sculptor David McCracken created the illusion of an infinite staircase rising from the lake and ascending toward the clouds with 'Diminish and Ascend'. The sizeable artwork is a 13 metre long receding perspective staircase made from aluminium. Previously on display in Sydney and Waiheke Island, the sculpture will remain in the Gardens until late 2017.

©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: For approximately 5 years, one of my photographic goals was to get to the top of Mt. Evans & shoot the Mountain Goats. This experience has been matched by no other.

©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: I don't normally do any major photo altering, except to achieve what the scene actually looked like. However, removing a little color here seemed to enhance how foggy and frosty it was yesterday morning. :-) Since I love macro work so much, it was tough to decide on shooting all macro frost or all fog....I tried to get in a little of both and was hurrying as well....because I knew the frost wouldn't last long with the temps hovering right at freezing.

While out visiting family in BC I spent some time in and around Kamloops. Few miles east at McCracken, a heavy westbound grain train glides downgrade to Kamloops. This was after they dropped their helper at Geddis for the next eastbound.
I didn't notice it at the time, but I was happy with the FedEx truck sneaking into the frame, as they must be busy with the Canada Post strike raging on.

©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: After a morning of trying to be sneaky in the piney woods and get a shot of a Pileated Woodpecker (or any other wildlife for that matter) I went back to camp, sat down beside the picnic table & this White-Breasted Nuthatch came down to see what I was doing. It was the only time I saw him in camp. I'm pretty happy to get him as I didn't have a shot of one yet that I was happy with. I'm happy with this one. ;-) They crack me up the way they hang upside down.
And yes, that yellow-green bokeh is actual color. Those woods are socked in with heavy trees & undergrowth...and when the sun hits it, it's like a light being turned on.

A few more shots taken on our travels in NZ South Island.
A lookout point on the Southern Scenic Route as we were heading over from Invercargill to Te Anau.
©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: As anyone who's ever been in the Rocky Mountains knows, they create their own weather. This was shot last night at Lobo Overlook above Wolf Creek Pass. The elevation is 11,555 ft. When we arrived the temperature was 42°F. Fog was being created on one side of the mountain to the far right...and rolling at high speed in front of us - through the red-orange sunset. It was the most ethereal moment I've ever witnessed. Even seeing this doesn't describe how it felt standing there and watching it unfold.

This is more of a fashion shoot I suppose, instead of a "portrait" type shoot. I like the contrasty lighting with her outfit. We shot some photos earlier in the day with my octabox but she said that she wanted something a little more "edgy" as far as lighting. This was under a bridge downtown that I really liked!
I'm friggin stoked how level the line where the ground/wall meet without using crop or a tripod. Sweet.
